Port have 15
Port Melbourne (15): 1897, 1901, 1922, 1940-41, 1947, 1953, 1964, 1966, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1980-82
Sandy. The most successful club in the past 30 years
Depends on how much that hard slog in the mud took out of Box Hill last week to come up fresh again. Good team Hawks possibly rely on Suckling to kick goals too much but always give it a good go.
Willy and North Ballarat have good teams also but Little up forward will help them kick a good score.
North Bullants are really supprising all and if they can keep that good form they could pinch a Grand Final spot.
Four worthy teams all with a chance.
I thought he may have got off the first incident. It was clumsy, and they are pretty hot on that sort of thing.
Hopefully he comes back firing after a longer break in 2011. No doubt Tobes will be keen to make up for it.
The topic gives the Burrough Brigade something to talk about now their season is over.
I think Port and Willy are equal on 13 Premierships each, if Willy win the GF, they will have one more than Port; that will hurt them
I thought we had won 13 also, but a check of the WFC website says 15: 1907, 1921, 1939, 1945, 1949, 1954, 1955, 1956, 1958, 1959, 1969, 1976, 1986, 1990 & 2003.
I know 1976 was a Second Division flag, so maybe we have 14 and will equal Port if we take off the Grannie this year :-)
Williamstown Seagulls (13): 1907, 1921, 1939, 1945, 1949, 1954-56, 1958-59, 1986, 1990, 2003
69 and 76 were 2nd division flags....so they have 13 1st division and 2 2nd division
I'm assuming we're talking 1st division flags only as Port never played in 2nd division..and neither did Sandy
Interesting a Ben Waites incident in the rd18 reserves. From what I understand there was no report, no video report and Ben was 1st emergency to play the 1st weekend of the finals in the seniors.
The Club was then informed that they would be investigating an incident reported from Weribee where it is alleged Ben struck him before taking off on a lead. The funny thing is, that apparently Waite doesn't even remember the incident directly and can only think maybe there was a tussle before he broke free and got on a lead, stuff that happens 20 times a game between forwards and backs.
No witnesses, No video and the Werribee bloke had a whinge. VFL took word against word and dished out 4 weeks. Ben Waite was also apparently a certain starter in the second final for the Scorpions before being rubbed out.
Apparently the club are furious.
Clubs that dont have an AFL partner to step in are always in strife when it gets to tribunal time.
Ive seen a Frankston player get pushed into a fence deliberatly and unable to play for months due to serious injury. Collingwood step in and nothing happens.
That Sam Dwyer incident from 2008 is probably the most forceful and deliberate head high contact Ive seen in many years. How could Pinwill get 1 week for a push and Picken gets nothing?? I thought the rule was if the player has another form of action he is in trouble??? Well Picken could have layed a tackle, tried a smother or realised he wasnt in the contest and pulled out. Dead set disgrace VFL.
Port has won 1 more flag than Williamstown. If Willy win this year they will equal our record.
