VFL club Casey Scorpions have pledged not to abandon Brendan Fevola as he grapples with alcohol and gambling problems.

The club gave the former Carlton and Brisbane Lions forward another chance in football this week by allowing him to train with the Scorpions with a view to joining the club this season.

‘‘The last twenty four hours have highlighted that the program in place to assist Brendan’s desire may take longer than his management, medical and support teams initially considered,’’ Casey president John Sharkie said in a statement.

"This may be a long process for Brendan."
