DEPLETED by injuries, Frankston was forced to play two short in the reserves on Saturday.

With 20 players sidelined, these are testing times for the Dolphins.

The reserves were thumped 35.18 (228) to 1.1 (7). Their coach Shane "Mouse" Mottram had to play to make up numbers.

In the seniors, Frankston was no match for a second-placed Williamstown side that included 16 Western Bulldogs players.

Willy won by a widening 74 points.

"To be perfectly honest we played against a really good side," Frankston coach Simon Goosey said.

"Early on I thought we were pretty good; we should have been a few goals up but didn't convert our opportunities."

Zephaniah Skinner and Lukas Markovic, fresh from recent AFL experience, starred for Williamstown, as did Brett Goodes, the younger brother of Sydney's Brownlow medallist Adam Goodes.

Goosey said Williamstown's class took over.

"They were good at pressuring the ball carrier and we turned the ball over," he said.

"There's a lot to learn for our boys. But we are realists and we know where we are at."

Frankston suffered another injury blow in the first term when Christian Ongarello did his hamstring for a second time.

And Emilio Bitters couldn't come back after suffering a bad corky in the second term.

The positive out of the game was the continued splendid form of Russell Gabriel.

"He would be polling pretty well in the Liston," Goosey said.
