Geat times down at the Borough! There were a few tears at Etihad that's for sure. Straight after the match we headed back to teac oval on the 109 tram that was completly packed. The whole tram was singing grand old flag which was pretty special. There was so many great moments back at the club, a really unforgetable day. Another special moment was when the chan 7 news come on at the club rooms. The packed room went nuts! All the willy goals got booed and anything with red and blue got a massive cheer. When players arrived one by one they were given a standing ovation. And when Ayres walked in the place erupted like it was new years eve!!

29 long years and finally when back on top again. And what made it even sweeter was that we buried Willy and ran all over them in the final term. What a great year by the Borough. Undefeated Premiers!!!

Great win to far and away the best team in the VFL in 2011.

A few comments from an outsider - one the VFL GF should NEVER be played at Docklands again.

12,000 people in a 55,000 cap stadium just does not cut the mustard.

I also think having the GF at Ports home ground is fair on the other clubs either and in a tight game could just give Port the winning edge.

Back to Port and the comp in general firstly I reckon it proves the old adage "that a champion team will always beat a team of champions"!

Willy for all their AFL pro footballers who were supposed to be bigger, stronger and fitter than their Port counterparts were just not up to beating a REAL team showing desire and team spirit.

Apart from Werribee and Nt Ballarat the alingements wilh the AFL clubs are not in the best interests of the VFA/VFL clubs as most are now like Willy last sunday, nothing more than defacto AFL reserves sides.

I also think the few diehards left running the current VFL clubs have become lazy as they think why should we go out and recriut some decent VFL standard players? as the AFL club has plenty of players on their list that dont cost us anything.

For me the VFL(SIC) is at a very dangerous crossroad and if the right decisions are not made by the mostly former VFA clubs the comp will be come more disfuncional that it is already.
Port have shown that with guts ,hard work and dedication a club can standalone and prosper so how about some of the other clubs biting the bullet?

Dont forget when the AFL clubs see the VFL as no longer usefull to them they will dump the comp very quickly.

Billy,
Very hard to disagree with any of all that, But I think you left out the the most important ingredient required is MONEY.
I think that if most VFL clubs had the choice they would prefer to go it alone but is impossible to maintain the standard required if cannot recruit players that are capable of playing at the level.
The old traditional VFA/VFL teams are hanging on year after year hoping for some assistance from the almighty AFL but it is not forthcoming. The AFL is obsessed with growing the game nationally & internationally but neglecting it's own backyard.
For the future of the VFL, the AFL must be prepared to tip heaps of money into the VFL & give all clubs an opportunity to participate on an equal playing field, otherwise we may all be experiencing more scenarios like the Northern Bullants.
Clubs must also learn that they have to be patient & develop their own lists & STOP recruiting ex AFL hacks that will only send you broke.

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

I also agree that the clubs should develope their own players from the TAC teams but most seem reluctant to do the heavy lifting required plus most young players wont stick around in the VFL reserves for very long when they realise the seniors are stacked with disinterested AFL hacks and their chances of getting a game are almost zero.

Clubs like Bendigo and Preston have heaps of local talent in their areas and have no excuse for not promoting those players.

Chaser, I reckon every Port supporter on this site would have a copy and would have watched the replay more than a few times.
