Saints unveil new academy

ST KILDA coach Scott Watters has unveiled the club's radical new football academy that will see the Saints bolster their notoriously undermanned player development team by 400 per cent and invest unprecedented resources in VFL partner Sandringham.

With Dean Laidley set to join Watters in coming days as part of the Saints' assistant coaching team, the club has also poached Claremont's WAFL premiership coach Simon McPhee to coach Sandringham and play a key role in the new player academy to be based at the club's Seaford home.

Watters told The Age that the academy was based on the model promoted by Premier League club Fulham and that the new development philosophy had been a key part of his presentation for the senior coaching job.

Never say never Zebraman. The more and more Sandringham rely on St Kilda to survive the more likely it is the name will change. Lay down with dogs, well you know the rest.

Actually if it is done properly and the Saints are telling the truth that they want to strengthen the Zebras it will be good for both clubs.

Of course the proof will be in the eating! Its also up to the SFC to recruit some decent players to carry the VFL side of the team.

How about asking Shane Valenti to come back as Captain if he dosent get drafted this year for starters?

The only downer is the thought of another failed coach Dean laidley having any involvement - could be another Melbourne situation where Conolly was in the background stirring up shit against an untried coach.
