A strong first half, a so-so second, was Casey Scorpions coach Brett Lovett's appraisal of his team's performance against the Coburg Tigers at Coburg City Oval on Saturday.

The Scorpions won by six points but conceded three goals late in the match.

At one stage in the second quarter their lead blew out to eight goals.

Lovett thought the Scorpions set up their victory with a determined defensive effort in the first term, when they kicked three goals into a breeze and held Coburg to one.

"Really pleased with that, the way we were able to restrict them and do some scoring of our own," he said
