Beat me to the announcement Robbo.lol. Now the fun starts in hiring assistants and support staff and building a playing list. Have an interest in a few positions they will be looking at advertising in near future.

From the article...

"Following his retirement, he coached Casey Cardinia Football League club Narre Warren to back-to-back premierships in 2006 and 2007 and was the Head Coach of the Gippsland Power TAC Cup team in 2008."

I think that would certainly suggest some positive signs.

Great get Caveman. Will be terrific for them, althought there should be some strong conditions attatched.
He must live in the town & spread himself around the whole community.
He must work very hard with the Bendigo football league clubs & encourage their support.
He must get the full support of the Bendigo Pioneers & work together.
He must insist that the club fields a reserves side once again.
He must ensure that the club has it's own headquarters & social enviornment.
If he can't achieve these demands I'm afraid they will be back where they started..... Unfortunately.

Love the VFL grand final at Etihad Stadium.

Interesting appointment, but the club is heading in right direction. Will need to work hard with the local leagues up there to secure all the best players in that region and they should also have a plan for a development squad in say 2014 or 2015. The Gold must also get there own HQ in the very near future. Good luck to Aussie and the Gold in 2013. Graham Pratt is doing a great job up there and hopefully he will get the on field rewards in mid 2013 and onwards.

Is anyone here going to apply for any off-field roles(support staff, admin roles) when they are advertised??

Cheers,
lauschie

agree lauschie. the club are definitely on a good pathway atm. Graham Pratt is doing some outstanding work balancing up some difficult factors this year and making it feel like a real footy club. We won't know how well the admin side is going at the moment, but Peter Lodewijks moment of truth will be in the off-field strength of next year and beyond. They are certainly working hard behind the scenes at corporate level. local players like duscher, maddern and stroobants have had good years going by the reports. Schultz was playing really well until his injury. I also like that they are giving plenty of young kids a taste of VFL with an eye on next year. Huntley, Walls,Peoples, McCarty etc could all be regulars next year. It's a good thing. And even less important side issues such as the website which imo is the best in the vfl, with in-depth match reviews, a good layout including pics and i noticed today now has a video highlights section , someone is putting in a lot of effort on that site and it's a good move. corporates will be badly needed, and they will like modern stuff like that.

of course, the key issue will be getting the best bendigo football league players interested, and building a development pathway for the Pioneers and other local kids. That will be Aussies key mission from now until november, and Pratty will be a very important man in that process too. One area that does bother me is the fitness. VFL is becoming very demanding, with lots of AFL tactics and fitness regimes filtering down. Bendigo will need to be up to speed on that stuff, and that won't be easy without an AFL club core. I don't think Bendigo can go down a port melbourne path of lots of ex-afl players and senior bodies, we need to engage the local young players, so it's going to be tough to get through a full season against some pretty big teams. But I think the club is really going ok on every level. hopefully Bendigo as a city can get behind them.

Is Peoples any relation to former Fitzroy player from the 60s and early 70s Daryl Peoples ?
Good luck to the third stand VFL alone team in 2013. Bendigo Gold will surely fare better than the Diggers both on and off the field.
Will be venturing to Deakin Reserve on Sunday for the Bendigo v Coburg clash.
Another new ground for a VFA/VFL match. They should get a decent crowd.

Who do we have that plan to attend? I had invited one potential new guy out to the meetup. I just need to know who is planning to attend or if its just me showing up, it might be better to cancel. -Dan Sciscente
