One for the borough boys

Gents, was having a convivial or 3 with some learned colleagues evening last, when the discussion crossed between the vfl & the AuFL. One associate mentioned that nathan foley is the nephew of gerry foley who ran around at teac oval in the mid to late 80's. If memory serves me correct gerry was an honest toiler, half back flanker, for the borough and would've played 50 odd games. Can anyone confirm the allegation?

Gerard Foley wore number 48 but was quite a handy player and can bob up with a few goals. Not quite sure if they are related.
Strong possibility that this could be correct.
Maybe Bobby Borough or Jason Borough can find out.

I'm pretty sure he used to reach at my school. From memory he had a bit of a short fuse on the footy field.

I think you're correct George, I remember him playing against Willi in the epic 1988 elimination/first-semi final at North Port in the rain. Very willing in the clinches.

Gerard Foley used to be a teacher at my school a few years back. I can confirm that he is the uncle of Nathan Foley (Currently listed for the Richmond Tigers). He also had a short temper while teaching and is now the deputy principal at a Grammar school in Melbourne.

If you go to pmfc.com.au theirs a list of every player that has played for Port and the number of games and the years they were with the club.

Hope this helps.
