Gate figures for Willy's first final against Bendigo was only 450. Will this be the week that all the Bulldog scarves and jumpers make an appearance? Where have all the Seagulls fans gone to??
With the development Grand Final being played before this match as well as no AFL on I'm hoping for a massive crowd at Port with 4000 as a bare minimum. 18 degrees and sunny is the forecast so far so lets see how we go!
Nothing stopping the crowd to be 5,000 plus if they don't come out then it really sends a strong message to the comp that people are not really interested anymore i hope i'm wrong.
Biggest hurdle to a large crowd will be the Western Region FL Grand Final, which will be held at Altona at exactly the same time. Spotswood are in the main game, while Port Melbourne Colts made the reserves play-off.
WRFL crowd will be a maximum of 3000. willi and Port did not draw 4000 in the 2003 prelim, Expecting 5000 this Saturday - your dreaming !!!!!
what was the crowd then in in 2003 ? must of been pretty close to that i will see if i can dig the stats up
There hasnt been a REAL 5000 to a VFL final at Port for a very long time.2000 - 3000 will be the max.
Btw they were saying on ABC TV yesterday what a good crowd was at Casey = a load of bollocks lucky to be 1500 and thats being generous.
The last genuine big finals crowds was when the Tassie side pulled a couple of decent crowds in Hobart.
Even in the VFAs heyday the minor finals very rarely got over 10,000 and usually averaged about 7000.
Crowd estimate 3500. No Saturday AFL day games in Melbourne but the local WRFL GF would take quite a few away from North Port Oval.
No love lost between the borough and the seagulls. Hope the weather is at least decent. One predicition is that the crowd will still be bigger than the 3 Casey Finals over the past fortnight combined. Not hard to do.

The trouble with both Willy and Port is Local support has dried up over the years due to both suburbs changing from working class to being gentrified middle class and those people dont go to the footy in large numbers - would rather be walking the dog down the beach or sipping latte on Bay Street.
This game should rate well on the ABC. A big crowd would be great. Anything above 3000 would be a good result. If the weather is warm and pleasant I would expect another 500 to 1000 to show up.
Free ticket giveaways to residents of City of Port Phillip needs to be looked at. Not for a final but the H&A season.
The week off is a big boost for Port and couldn't come at a better time.
Expect another classic
2003 prelim at Port was 7000 according to official records. I do recall beer running out early in the 3rd term.
