WAFL on ABC1

Just finished watching Claremont vs Peel Thunder on ABC1. For a clash of the top vs bottom on the ladder, Claremont only won by 17 pts. It's great to watch some good footy on TV - In this respect the WAFL really delivers. The fact that there are only 9 teams in the league seems to keep the gap between the top and bottom teams to a minimum. The games are on ABC on Friday mornings at 2.30am. I have been enjoying recording them and watching them on Friday nights while the AFL trots out its usual rubbish.

Looking forward to the Falcons vs the Sharks next week.....

(please no result spoilers in responses in this thread)

Fair enough opinion there on the number of teams. For the VFL it is onlty going to increase as well when Coburg and Willie break away from their afl affiliated clubs. If it gets to be too many temas I wonder if the league will be broken up into 2 - ie the stand alone vfl sides play in their own league and the afl reserves have their own league. Interesting times ahead for the future of this competition.

37 times Grand finalists
16 times premiers
21 times runners up - THE MIGHTY BOROUGH!

I'M PORT MELBURNE BORN,
I'M PORT MELBOURNE BRED,
I'LL BE PORT UNTIL I'M DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quite a good idea seperating the stand alone and AFL reserve clubs....frankly, staying away from the upper level AFL can only be a good thing. Just look at how the AFL's lower clubs struggle in an over populated competition knowing that the AFL will never do any thing at the determent of their 'Cash Cow' clubs (Coll, Ess, Haw, etc...).

Just watched the Falcons vs Sharks game - cracking game of footy with 40+ goals scored for the game. Falcons got the chocolates by 23 points to retain second spot of the ladder. They have the bye next round. Again, if you have a DVR try recording a game or two and check out the quality of the footy (don't be put of by the crowd sizes on TV as the game are played at suburban style grounds , many with "Hill" sections) - what a throw back to the good old days before the Empire (AFL) ;)

Ravenaux I have been to a couple of WAFL games when I went to the west to watch Richmond play. Haven't been for a while though, probably about 12 years ago when I last went. I have been to Lathlain Park for a Perth v East Perth game. Watched the royals play from Perth Oval a few times. Also been to Clarement as well as both Fremantle grounds in South next to Freo jail as well as the local derby East v South at East Freo's ground. On that occasion crowd was in excess of 10,000. If I am ever in SA or WA and there is a footy game on I make sure I get to a local game there. I have taped a few games on abc1 in the past. Might check results beforehand and if it looks like a game worth watching I will tape it.

Even Peel Thunder vs Claremont (which was top of the ladder vs second bottom) the other week was still a surprisingly good game...I'm sure Geelong vs Melbourne in the AFL would be a tight game...lol :)

Peel Thunder have been a basket case as they usually finish either last or second last. They have produced some good players with the best being Daniel Wells. I remember watching a replay of a game with former Springvale and Melbourne player Scott Simister with a monster kick of malcolm Blight proportions. He would have roosted the ball at least 80 metres.
Peel and East Perth are basically aligned to West Coast and Freo where the other clubs are not overlly impressed.
In the past they have had some games in country WA including places like Port Hedland. Haven't had a good look at their fixtures. Have they allocated any country games this year ?

West Perth Falcons defeated Subiaco by 1 point after not having scored for the first 24 minutes of the game. Subiaco had recently handed the then undefeated Claremont their first loss of the season. I so wish this had been the TV game of the week. Sadly we go Perth's thumping of cellar dwellers Peel Thunder. Oh Well, Falcons game on TV this week againt Swan Districts. Go Falcons!!!!

The Falcons are in the GF!!! - now just have to wait for the Friday morning replay of the Royals v Claremont game to see who the opponent will be (no spoilers please, if you know the result). The excitement is building as the ONLY time I have ever seen a team I follow in a grand final is a couple of years ago when the Western Bulldogs won the NAB Cup...I know the pre-season comp. means nothing, but it was nice to see them finally win SOMETHING....

My mate from Perth excitedly emailed me this morning with details of the WAFL GF. It'll be a good one, wish it was televised here live as I used to follow the Cardinals when i lived in Perth & lived just a few torpedo punts from Leederville Oval.
