If my memory serves me correctly here when I was at Nott St (some 30 years ago) - one year they gave away heaps of Port memberships. God only knows why because back in those days heaps of the kids would go to the Port games. I remember seeing the jumper being worn in the street all the time, and the kids would come into show and tell and talk about their outing at North Port oval.

I Like brekky dj's idea of getting more kids involved. The club should target the schools, Albert park high school or whatever it is called thesedays, Graham St , all schools around the area.

Youngsters love gettingsomething for free, it gives them that warm feeling. If you were to give them a free ticket and a pie alot of them would come. The perceived value of doing so is around the $15 mark but the actual value is only a few $ for the price of the food. For the few $ spent you have some kids coming to the games that may in time grow to love the club. They may bring their paying parent, who my spend more money than just at the gate.

Having said that i remember Port did a free ticket handout one yera as part of the Port Melbourne festival and i can;t relay remember it having a great impact on the crowd.

Perhaps some advertising in the local area - more than just the match report in the local paper. Great ideas from forum members in this thread but I guess it all comes down to the same things, lack of time, money and resources.

37 times Grand finalists
16 times premiers
21 times runners up - THE MIGHTY BOROUGH!

I'M PORT MELBURNE BORN,

Classy, Cookgalea. The rest of the clubs may as well shut down as how can they possibly compete with all this Port greatness.

Not trying to outdo Port, that could never happen ,could it?
But Sandringham have been giving local school children free passes for years and have had very good results from that project,
So it's not new but a very good chance to get the kids and their parents envolved in VFL/VFA when they played.

JB,
I think this wonderful footy site should be renamed "Port Footy" & have 2 divisions, those that are for & those against.
How can any other teams compete with all this hubris & propaganda. The current ratio would be about 10 to 1, Ports way of course.
Just wonder why we are all still competeing against best team, best players, best ground, best coach, best facilities, best record, best supporters, best history, best grandstand, best colours, best jumpers & best hamburgers.
Maybe we can all catch up one day. !!! Sigh.

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

Rumour has it that the United Nations are about to recruit a new Secretary General from the Port ranks to solve all the problems in the world

Not Really mate just stating the facts. To have a major football team these days you don't really need supporters, just look at gws

Well what do we do? Yes there's lots of port supporters mate.
I think the vfl has lots of supporters who don't even know about this site. Maybe you can tell your other true supporters at your club about this great site & promote the site that way there can be as many of every club.

I do realise you like going fishing digs. But I must say the ball in your court & if you can get some of your boys from nth ballarat to join it will be a better site.
