If this alignment is to continue then the Zebs should insist on them choosing & paying for their own coach.
Anybody associated with St Kilda should not be considered.

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

I'm tipping another breakaway. The zebs don't overly need the saints.

Sandy would be far better off without St Kilda a club that has won one premiership in over 100 years !!!

Whats new an AFL club dumping the VFL club when it suits them?.St Kilda will no doubt drag this out to suit themselves.

Mc Fee cant have it both ways as he is an employee of St Kilda FC and they are his masters.

Sandringham might find it at first but who knows what the future will hold?

If anymore AFL clubs run their own seconds teams in the VFL(sic) then they may as well just call it what is really is - the AFL Reserves comp and be done with it.

The old VFA teams plus a couple of others could almost form there own comp now.

The only pleasing thing about the 2013 season is seeing St Kilda down in their normal place in the bottom of the ladder what is it 43 wooden spoons - now thats a great record to have LOL

Unfortunately this year the alignment has really gone downhill...it's a pity as I've met some really good people who follow St Kilda and who have really embraced Sandy...but the last couple of weeks have surely shown that the alignment needs to end or there be a dramatic change in attitude from St Kilda towards Sandy.

Taking players from the team an hour or so before a game is nothing but downright contempt...the St kilda players have been fantastic imo..even they couldn't understand why they weren't playing when they were well into their preparation for the game...a similar thing happend earlier in the year when we played Port Melbourne at Frankston....with the game up for grabs at 3/4 time...sandy kicking against the wind in the last 1/4...and what do St Kilda do?...drag 2 players off for the last 1/4...disgraceful conduct.

I know Sandy need the $'s that come from the alignment, but that shouldn't give St Kilda an excuse to act the way they acted.I've tried pretty hard to back the alignment, but this year has demoralised not just me, but a lot of other support staff/volunteers.

Normally half way through a week I would be really looking forward to the game on the following weekend...nowadays it's kind of like going to a job that you don't like...you go because you feel obligated...not because you really want to be there..and that's not what supporting footy is about.

I'm buggered if I know what I'll do next year if the alignment continues...part of me says to just walk away...another part says stick it out and hope it comes good...but Scott Watters and Chris Pelchen promised a couple of years ago that they understood how alignments worked...that the team would be picked on one criteria only...FORM...I walked away from that meeting feeling reasonably confident that we'd have a fairly harmonious relationship.

Let's just say that what was said at this meeting hasn't been put into practice...it's as though they just said what they thought Sandy wanted to hear, then went about and did the exact opposite.

It's not good enough and I know there are several long term volunteers who will assess their positions at the end of the season and decide if they'll continue on in 2014 and beyond.

Sandy. The most successful club in the past 30 years

As a St Kilda supporter, I can tell you there are many St Kilda supporters that have really embraced Sandy and genuinely follow them and hope they do well, its really not the cynical "as long as our boys play well" scenario at other alignments. Given the Trevor Barker connection, that isn't too surprising.
As one of the truly traditional VFA teams, if Sandy can stand alone viably, they should stand alone. As a St Kilda AFL member, I'd be worried about pouring funds intoa VFL team (that I won't follow, btw, I'm Port through and through VFA wise) when we need every cent we can get, as we are only at the beginning of the very long rebuilding road.
The alignment should end, it is obviously no longer serving each party the way it should. I had hoped the Saints might then align with Frankston, proximity and colors make sense, but if they field a stand alone team, that's fine too.

Thanks for your insight zebraman I think you now know how I have felt about this one sided arrangement all along/

I wont tip in any money if Sandy stay with a bastard club like St kilda but am prepared to give a few thousand in sponsership if Sandy go alone.

I would rather support a club that is real than bullshit of a so called "alingment" with a useless AFL club.

If Sandringham and St Kilda go alone AFL Victoria(sic ffs the AFL is a League NO ONE plays AFL except the AFL players) will have a problem of too many teams = time to split and let the AFL run their own Reserves they will have 7 teams as Box Hill and Northern Blues are just AFL seconds teams and if St Kilda go alone it will be 8 only leaving Melbourne and North.

The VFA/VFL would have 8 and could bring a couple of other clubs like Noble Park

Geez Riccardo, don't push that rabble on us. We have a credible club here and don't need an alignment with a mob that are the football equivalent of a leech. Seeing what has happened to a proud club like Sandy is just sad....I'm amazed that they want to continue the alignment, regardless of the financial need. If they continue with St.Kilda, the Zebs are doomed as a long term prospect!

Why would you say that St Kilda are a leech? I haven't watched Sandringham all that much this year, but it seems they aren't doing much better than the Saints are, and the St Kilda players are more often than not the best players.
The purpose of an alignment for the AFL club is to give their players experience in a less competitive environment, Sandy knows that, and St Kilda quite rightly look after their own players and push their own agenda, its why our comp is so broken. If the Zebras didn't like it, they would do what Port and Williamstown have done and cut ties, but they want to continue, so they must know they would struggle to survive at all without St Kilda.
I know my AFL club isn't the most popular, but nobody accuses Carlton or Hawthorn of leeching off Box Hill and Preston, and neither of those clubs even have their own identity anymore, so a bit of perspective, please.
