Can't fault the endeavour of the St. Kilda players when they pull on the Sandy jumper, but unfortunately they are just puppets on a string, pulled by the uncaring St. Kilda hierarchy.

Riccardo, I'm not defending the other AFL clubs in terms of their treatment of their VFL affiliates. This discussion is about the Sandy/St.Kilda alignment.....St.Kilda treat the Zebras as if they aren't a club in their own right, and it has been pointed out that they have made promises to respect that CLUB which they have not lived up to. VFL clubs are NOT simply a reserves team for the AFL clubs.....no club will be a sustainable entity that way.

If it makes you feel any better, it was appalling to see the Northern Blues remove Warnock and Bootsma 7 minutes into the final quarter at Frankston on Sunday. And yes of course we know how Carlton have decimated the once proud Preston club (as a once rabid Carlton supporter, I'm disgusted by what they have done). If the AFL clubs don't respect the COMPETITION that the VFL is, then our league is in terrible trouble.

Toecutter, no the AFL clubs absolutely don't respect the VFA clubs as separate entities, as I see it, they have been given no reason to. Their primary goal is to get their fringe players experience without coughing up the huge amount of cash for their own side. That is why I despise the alignment system - it destroys clubs. Most AFL supporters don't see their affiliate as anything more than a reserves. Its not right, but it is the pathetic status quo, and it isn't right to single out one club when they all do it, that's all. If anything, I hope the alignment does fail, and it prompts the AFL to split up the competitions, that's really what we all want.
I agree with Borough1874 - St Kilda will need to trade and recruit very shrewdly to avoid becoming another Melbourne. We are far from a rich club, so a separate reserves will eat up cash that could be freed up to improve the list - I think its why the Saints abandoned their own VFL team in the first place - cash flow.

Bastard club? Tell us how you really feel, Billy!

Ask any long time Sandringham supporter and they will tell you the same thing.

Melbourne has always had a better relationship the Sandy not St Kilda thats one of the reasons the partnership with the Demons worked so well. For a long time the Melbourne zone Morrabbin Bentleigh, Ormond. etc covered what should have been St Kildas

The irony is that the clubs before the alingment were never close and ask digs how St Kilda treated their Ballarat zone in the past.

St Kildas own AFL/VFL history and bad management speaks for itself.

I feel sorry for you following a club with such a poor culture that certainly wont be a premiership contender for a very long time.

The Melbourne partnership obviously worked a treat, that's why they are still aligned, obviously.
No need to feel sorry for me, I love my club and your outsider opinion will not change that one iota!

Why would you say that St Kilda are a leech? I haven't watched Sandringham all that much this year, but it seems they aren't doing much better than the Saints are, and the St Kilda players are more often than not the best players.
The purpose of an alignment for the AFL club is to give their players experience in a less competitive environment, Sandy knows that, and St Kilda quite rightly look after their own players and push their own agenda, its why our comp is so broken. If the Zebras didn't like it, they would do what Port and Williamstown have done and cut ties, but they want to continue, so they must know they would struggle to survive at all without St Kilda.
I know my AFL club isn't the most popular, but nobody accuses Carlton or Hawthorn of leeching off Box Hill and Preston, and neither of those clubs even have their own identity anymore, so a bit of perspective, please.

Yopu are joking surely?Every ex VFA supporter knows the Carlton and Hawthorn are just using the the clubs and their facilities they are supposedly in a partnership with!

If Sandringham FC keep on the same path with St Kilda they will end up the same esp once the helpers around the club start to give up in frustration like zebraman.

Billy,
A bastard of a club is a massive understatement,& deserve everything they get.
During the zoning days, St Kilda raped all Ballarat league clubs of their good players.
Back then those players had to be both cleared & compensated.
They took everthing & gave nothing. Most clubs were only too happy to see the young players get a chance at the big time.
Without the exact numbers I would suggest that 50 - 60 players went to St Kilda & what did they do, Sold the bloody lot of them. Frawley, Cunningham & Burns would have been a couple that they retained.I can clearly remember them coming up for Val Perovic, promising sportsmans nights, player appearances & many dollars for a transfer fee, what did the Roosters get.....NOTHING. The same as all the other clubs.
No part of any money St Kilda got for Lockett, Perovic, Malthouse, Dunne etc was never ever returned to their clubs of origin & whats more there is still money owing to this day.
To call them a bastard of a club is praising the skunks up.

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

Hey and dont think that the casey alignment with Melbourne is Kosher. Think you will find that that little basket case will be all over by years end as they have no brass either way.
Lets face it, Warnock taking photos with the fans holding his boots in his hands at the 10 minute mark says a lot about Mick Malthaouse and what he thinks of the competition, or maybe it was a ploy as theycame back from the dead once those two stickmen lets to run around the shower rose to get wet.
AFL dont give two craps about the comp and will break it up as soon as these two latest divorces occur, Bendigo gold sink down the mine shaft of debt, and then they may well either tell the Hawks and roos that it is all over and leave us poor volunteers and helpers to try and put Humpty back together again.
With all the Kings Horses and all the Kings men we could put Humpty back on the wall again but we need to
1. get rid of Howard Leigh and his afl reserves players report out from the Hun, get back to Sunday vfa match of the day, followed by epic theater of course( Bob santa maria has passed unfortunately), and have a media team that is super savvy with todays technology and tomorrows.
Lower the entrance price or include the record, hook up with local Auskick and have half time games, play night games when interstate night games are on a Friday night.
And most of all
COMPENSATE THE CLUBS THAT SUPPLY DRAFTEES AND ROOKIES WITH $50,000 EACH SO THAT THEY CAN CONTINUE TO DO SO AFTER EDUCATING THEM FOR YEARS TO JUST HAVE THEM TAKEN AWAY WITHOUT SO MUCH AS A FLIPPIN LETTER SAYING THANKS FOR LETTING ME STEAL YOUR FOUR BEST PLAYERS AND WE HOPE YOU GET OFF THE BOTTOM OF THE LADDER REAL SOON.
Then the VFA would scour the locals and put time and effort into them and maybe then the local clubs could get say $1000 for every year that they were with them out of the 50.
It drives me to despair that the AFL think that they own every player in the world and that they give jack squat back and dont tell me grass roots rubbish , Auskick ( NAB promotional tool) etc is giving back. Follow what I said and it is a sure fire winner that will produce a tribal, caring, wanting to win attitude with players desperate for the footy.
Rant over my brain hurts, think I'll have some hexarellin. James, oh James where are you?

Have belief for the path to victory has been well worn however seldom do we arrive at the destination.
