Good move Sandy. We need a strong Zebra side in the VFA. They deserve so much better.

Great news the Sandringham FC should use the next 2 years wisely and do what they want without the interference from St Kilda.Paraphrasing John Howard "its OUR club and we will say who plays for us!"

Sandy are in the box seat now as what St Kilda going to do for the next two years not field a reserves side? The time of licking the Saints arse is over.It wont be easy but nothing worHtwhile in life is easy.

First off appoint their OWN coach and start building a strong side for the future.

I for one will get on board once we have rid ourselves of the Saints.
The Zebras not that long ago had one of the largest and most passionate supporter bases in the VFA/VEL and the club should do all it can to win them back.

Maybe the club should look to asking supporters like me to tip into a special fund to buy players for the future
Im willing to give $1000 straight away if the money goes to something like this to help get OUR club get back under the Sandringham FC control

It wont be easy to go solo but anything is almost better than the bastardy of the last few years.

I also wouldnt be surprised that the agreement finishes before 2016 as just like in a divorce when its broken its time to split.

It is better for both clubs to stand alone, and it is good that there are two more years to prepare them both for that eventuality.

Regardless of what you think of St Kilda, Sandringham has benefited financially from having an AFL partner, and one who didn't try to completely take over like what happened to Box Hill or Preston. But with the Saints fortunes slipping, it has obviously become an untenable relationship.

Sandy will be fine, the supporters will come back now that they will be there own club again, and St Kilda will have plenty of time to rebuild their fortunes so they can afford a VFL club. All in all a good result.

I'm still awaiting confirmation from Sandy..spoken to a couple of people who are pretty confident it will be happening...

If it is true then we'll certainly go through a painful period at the start...but the upside will be supporters who don't like the alignment will start coming back...

St Kilda will need to get Moorabbin back up to scratch...the playing surface is fine...they just need some basic supporter facilities in place...

I realise there were many supporters from st Kilda and Sandy who didn't like the alignment..even though I'm not a St Kilda supporter I still wanted them to do well. And of course Sandy to just as well. The St Kilda players have been very good in the 5 years we've been together...been great to see players like Tom Curren win the Sandy B & F then finally get his chance at AFL level this year..another is Jimmy Webster...

But as Billy says...we need to get our own coach...not sure if that will be sooner or later...do wait until 2015 to appoint someone or go for it now?

Some exciting times ahead if the reports are true

Yes we may have gotten some money out of St Kilda but at a massive cost to the credibility and soul of the club

Its a bit like being a whore yes you get a lot of money but lose all respect
The number of games lost at home over the last 6 years is a disgrace.

It will take some time to win that respect back from the sporting world.

You would think that St Kilda would be better off shifting back to Linton Street and build a facility something like North, Footscray,Richmond and Essendon have done at their old VFL grounds.

IMHO both Melbourne and St Kilda made massive blunders going right out to the sticks Melbournes makes a bit of sense being tied to Casey but ST Kilda should have made an offer too good to refuse to Frankston.

Anthony Allan,Chad Liddell,Peter Summers,Tim Scott-Branagan, Adam Coghlan, Chris Lamb, Lauchy Oakley,Radford Bros, Rod Crowe, David Gallagher,Andy Biddlecombe ,Darren Mitchelsen, Nick Sautner ,Andy Collins ,Graeme Yeats are just a few who could become a think tank for the Zebras as their Zebra Club past history achievements were the best in those premiership years.

In some respects, its better to be a live whore than a dead lady.
I 100% agree, I was dead set against moving to Seaford, and I still am, but the club couldn't do up Linton St because the council baulked at the number of pokies at the venue and wouldn't pay for the upgrade.

I do think the Saints took advantage of the Zebras, maybe too much so. Should have stood alone after Casey switched to Melbourne and left Sandy to themselves. But no point in looking to the past, Sandys future looks a bit brighter now, from a VFA perspective, that can only be good.

If it happens, maybe over the next two years Sandy should adopt the Willi model from this year?

That is, cap the AFL players playing in your VFL side at 12 (with the rest playing Development League). That would help in recruiting and putting together the pieces for a standalone Sandy side.

Apparently there was a Platinum Members function for St Kilda supporters last night at Seaford where Chris Pelchen said that St Kilda would be stand alone in 2016 based at Moorabbin after the ground is revamped

So St Kilda treat their VFL alignment partner, Sandringham, shabbily but are helping out a local club in Sebastapol.

I'm no Saints fan Sammy, but I thought it was a fair gesture.
Sebastopol need all the help they can get, they haven't won a game in the Ballarat Football League this year,

It appears to me a totally differant type of contact- a chat to a club on processes and training is differant to having a number of players available to play- which seems to be the major issue- along with positions played etc. speaking to a country club and giving them information on how to go about keeping up moral- which is what the Saints have had to do most of the year.

There is still no official confirmation from either Sandy or St Kilda...although it appears that some St Kilda people are making it known that it's going to happen. Things still need to be agreed on and signed off before announcements are made and that is not the case here

I, and a lot of other people associated with Sandy hope you are right...just think St Kilda have jumped the gun a bit here without informing the Sandy hierarchy about what they're going to tell the St Kilda members and supporters..

Latest from the Sandringham website

An update on where negotiations are with the alignment agreement

11/10/2013
undefined

Negotiations between Sandringham and St Kilda are continuing in regards to the new alignment agreement between the two clubs for the 2014-2015 seasons, the current agreement expires at the end of October.

"The new agreement will be subject to some new conditions regarding a minimum number of Sandringham players in the team and team selection.

Members from the Sandringham and St Kilda hierarchies met late last month and an agreement is expected to be reached in the near future."

I asked Chris Pelchen about alignment in his live chat on Saints website yesterday...

Me: When will Saints and Zebras alignment be confirmed and will you agree to their terms about having min amount Zebras players in side?

Chris Pelchen: Hi Shaun. We have already agreed to extend our alignment for 2014-15 and parameters involving team selection form part of that agreement.

Looks like the Saints will be in the wilderness for a very long time following posting a massive $2.6 million loss last year

I cant see them improving oin the field very much next season so another big loss is on the cards as more members will drop off for sure

I just hope they dont do their usual stunt they pull when they get in the shit of not paying their creditors esp the SFC.

What do you think digs? I know that you have the same low opinion of St Kilda that I have.

Billy, St Kilda are despised by the football public in the Ballarat area. During the zoning years they raped all the clubs of their best players with the promise of transfer fees functions guernseys etc & gave bloody nothing.
To add further insult they would have sold 95% of them to other clubs with no return to the feeder clubs.
They deserve all they get for mine.

very well said, Digs - a great example of the AwFuL screwing anything to raise it's profit margin. thankfully there is still suburban footy where players are on $100 a game with handshake agreements for contracts.
