Willy were too good on the day and it was easy to see that Port just wernt mentally switched on with its usual desire for the contest. Just on next year I think we will see the most changes list wise since Ayres arrived in 2008. It will be a new look side in 2014 that's for sure.
Of the senior players Im not sure how many we will see out of Dillon, Bonaddio, Skipper, Baird, Cain and Galea. Will be a very interesting summer...
You've just named the best players for the side. I can't imagine those player departing and us still being competitive. You will need to do some exceptional recruiting to replace the players mentioned and if it eventuates that these players leave then it would be hard to imagine us having a successfull 2014. I hope to be proven wrong!!!!
"The Port boys are great winners but more importantly are gracious losers."
Has digs turned the corner and can i sence a small soft spot for Port ? DIGS HAS SEEN THE LIGHT!!!!
37 times Grand finalists
16 times premiers
21 times runners up - THE MIGHTY BOROUGH!
I'M PORT MELBURNE BORN,
I'M PORT MELBOURNE BRED,
I'LL BE PORT UNTIL I'M DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think we will lose 4-5 of the players you mentioned
I think if we can recruit impressively theres a good chance that a few of those players mentioned will go on for another season. I hope I'm wrong but those players are getting very close to the end of there VFL careers.
But theres still plenty of great talent at the club who will develop and take the club forward. Of players who didn't play on Saturday I'd say Gordon, Woofindin, Pitt, Burstin, Perry and Gale would be ready made replacements 2014.
And then theres the next generation coming through:
Papaleo, Hammond, Masitti, Vearing, Woodley, McKenzie, Woods, Macmillan etc. Even the Johnston boys Clay & Tomi are still very young.
Would like to hear from the Port supporters about which players we should target over summer. Type of players and even throw up some potential names??
1. Daniel Cross
2. Patrick vezpremi
3. A quality 24-28 Yo ruckman
4. Sam Lonergan
5 Triatan Francis
I know there's been a bit of talk about Nahas returning but one from left field who I think would be great value is Steve Milne. Could see him kicking 70 goals and playing a similar role as Patty Rose did.
If Skipper does go an experienced ruck like David Hille would be handy but its very hard to recruit guys who around the 30 to play VFL.
I know that we don;t have age on our side with the players you mentioned however the ones mentioned had great seasons. Do we try and retain those players whilst blooding youth or do we try and rebuild without them ? My humble opinion is that I think much like the Australian Cricket side - as long as they are performing lets try our best to keep them. Replacing the quality of Baird, Galea, Pleming will be a very tough task and one that I can;t see us doing succesfully.
Of the senior players Im not sure if we will see Dillon, Bonaddio, Pleming, Pinwill, Skipper, Baird, Cain and Galea again. Will be a very interesting summer...
As an outsider looking in, i can't see why Port would get rid of Pleming, Cain & Galea, unless you think they want to move on. I wouldn't throw the toys out of the cot just because of yesterday's result. The others you mentioned maybe are too old or just not good enough.
I think Borough was saying that they want to make a move not that the club wants to move them on - apologies on answering on your behalf boroughburger.
You do not rate Bonaddio, Pleming, Pinwill, Baird as being good enough ?
Wally we desperately want all those players to stay! Cain will be drafted and the others are getting towards that age bracket where they will be weighing up their VFL careers. All are still in our best team easily. Baird, Cain, Galea and Pleming are irreplaceable. And finding players like Skipper is not an easy task.
