Country achievements

After 10 consecutive flags, Wimmera League team Horsham Demons was defeated in Sunday's preliminary final by Horsham Saints. The Saints will play Dimboola in the GF at Nhill next Saturday.(It was originally listed for Sunday.) (I do not expect it to be played at 2.20am, as listed!)

A remarkable achievement for Horsham.

Strathfieldsaye, which first played in the Bendigo League in 2009, will play its first GF, against Golden Square, at QEO next Saturday at 2.20pm.

North Ballarat City, reformed for 2006 season but playing its first two seasons in the Bendigo League, plays its first GF in the Ballarat League (versus Sunbury), at Eastern Oval next Saturday at 2.15pm.

As new teams, Strathfieldsaye and North Ballarat City have had fairly rapid rises. Both were minor premiers and both lost a final in getting to their Grand Finals.

Deer Park trailed by 41 points and got up by a point against Spotswood. Speaking of one point wins ex VFA club Mordialloc won by a point against perennial finals choker Oakleigh Distracts who have lost I think at least 11 GFs since their last flag over 50 years ago. Mordialloc play Bentleigh at Clayton in the SFL 2nd Div. GF.

Amazing day's football in front of about 8000 at Frankston Park.

Amazing effort from Edi-asp after winning prelim in extra time and then coming from 33pts down 5 mins into last quarter.

Who had the crowd support Robbo ?
Was Bonbeach trying to break a flag drought ?
Some amazing finishes on the weekend.
Deer Park beating Spotty by one point after coming back from 41 points down.
The VFL reserves GF between Will v Box Hill in golden point time.

I also heard that the South Belgrave v Forest Hill 4th Div EFL GF was a draw and after extra time was still a draw so it was decided by extra extra time.

When a side can come from the clouds to win a flag in a thriller it certainly has the spectators on edge.

Some of the great finishes in VFA GF ??
1962 Sandy coming from a mile down to beat Moorabbin.
1990 seeing Willy coming from 34 points down in the last quarter as well as Billy Swan's magical kick.
The zebras 4 goals down at three quarter time against Box Hill in 1994.
Port's gallant fight back against Coburg in 1980.

Billy you have seen many more VFA GFs than I have you can add a few more than these but you would rank the 1962 GF as number one ?
I was only one in 1962 so in my attendance at VFA GFs I rank the 1990 Willy win over Springvale as the best come from behind and thrilling finish.

Not quite country, but Channel 31 are showing a full replay of the VAFA B Grade Grand Final right now. And showing the Premier Grand Final in replay on Sunday this week. They are using about 6 cameras and the community radio commentary.

Would love to see the VFL do something similar for VFL games or TAC Cup games.
