Expect the VFL Draw to come out a couple days before Christmas. Nothing much can happen until Foxtel Cup draw is out which is due next Wednesday.

As you speak, the Foxtel Cup draw was released this morning!

Box Hill v West Perth at Etihad and Willi v East Perth at the 'G.

So the draw should be out maybe next week?

Looking forward to see which teams get to play each other twice...there won't be too many of those games...maybe each team will play 3 teams twice over the course of the season..the rest just the one meeting..

The draw I downloaded has Williamstown v Aspley or Belconnen, depending on which wins round 1 match in NEAFL.

Yep, you're right! I was rushing and looked at the wrong game, but yes, Willi will play at the G

Prospect State is TSFL. Is that a renaming of Tasmanian State League?

South Launceston defeated Burnie in TSL GF this year, so who/what is Prospect State??

Prospect State (the state league team of the Prospect footy club) has 'take over' the state league place of South Launceston.

Very controversial in Tassie footy circles, with Prospect most likely to play a Foxtel Cup game before they have even played a TSL game.

Bendigo Advertiser seems to have a scoop on Gold draw for 2014. Interested as to why they would only play Coburg and Frankston once?

Interesting to note that they do not play all the teams in the competition. They don;t play Port or Willie. I would of thought they played every side in the competition.

37 times Grand finalists
16 times premiers
21 times runners up - THE MIGHTY BOROUGH!

I'M PORT MELBOURNE BRED,
I'LL BE PORT UNTIL I'M DEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Would it have anything to do with the fact that they don't have a development team ??

The newspaper only listed home games so presume they are playing Port Melbourne and Williamstown away. Also may presume they are playing Frankston and Coburg away as well.

Of course what's in the paper may not match the fixture when its released.

Cool - Would of preferred to play them away as they do not bring a good crowd to Port and also would of liked to of made a weekend of it but oh well such is life....

There appears to be a clash with Bendigo League.
Bendigo FNL lists South Bendigo v Maryborough at QEO on Saturday 9 August. The article in post #15 puts Bendigo Gold v Richmond at QEO that night. Maybe it will be a triple - or quadruple - header of day and night matches.

At this stage it looks like Port and Willy only play once.

It will be interesting to see how many night matches are fixtured compared to last year.

WHy dont the league let the small fries play each other twice for Gods sake so that they can have a chance of winning. Watch and see that Coburg in their first year stand alone will play the Premiers twice, the minor premiers twice and Port twice. Fantastic who would have thought that one up?

I dunno what this has to with this topic's title, but it will sure making reading the "fixtures" more interesting to see if the conspiracy theory outlined by Big Jablonski happens. Cobrascorer wrote.

I have just gotten hold of the fixture and well buggar me gently with the rough end of the pineapple who would have predicted that the bottom 3 sides play each other once and the Lions play the premiers twice, the minor premiers twice and the best performed team over the last 5 years in Port twice.
Their Dev squad play 4 games away from the seniors, SIX home games and TEN away games with their last 5 weeks AWAY. They play ONE game between MAY 4 AND JUNE 6 as well as playing on Good Friday. Thanks for your help and assistance VFl Vic, splendid job.
This is really beginning to smell very similar to Fitzroy.
My question is why are the powers that be trying to strangle the very heart of the competition and kowtowing to the Corporate greed that is the AFL.
I just can't wait to see the ABC television games list as I am sure that it will be full of Hawthorn, Richmond, Collingwood, Carlton, Willi and Port games because as we know a fair and reasonable coverage from the lefties at Aunty is what is important and not ratings.

The ABC should be forced to show every club atleast once during the season but I also suspect they will show the AFL seconds in preference to the rest of the comp.

Collingwood against Richmond Essendon,Footscray,Geelong anyone?

The Dev Squad draw worries me...we had a couple of games in 2013 where Sandy Dev Squad played at one venue and on the same day the seniors played at another...on one occasion the DS played at Visy park and the seniors at Windy Hill...the other occasion was when the DS played at casey Fields and the seniors at home...that incorporated a lot of organising especially with the trainers etc..I fear 2014 will be even worse as Big Jablonski has hinted

Possibly the worse draw you could get was having a televised game at North Ballarat when they had a DS..the game would start at 10am in the Ds, so We'd have to get there at 8am to get the rooms ready...that meant a 6am start for many...after cleaning up after the game, taking the gear back to Sandy, I'd get home around 8-30 - 9pm...a very long daythats' not a complaint...just a fact of how things are...of course now there won't be a DS match with North Ballarat anymore so if we're away there at least we'll be able to leave at a civil hour of the morning...possibly in daylight!...but the way the draw could pan out, we'll play North Ballarat on a Saturday and have a DS match on the Sunday or vice versa..

Looking forward in trepidation at the 2014 draw

Well said Zebraman, I said the same thing last week only to get insulted & accused of whinging.
The development league is NOT sustainable in it's current format.

I missed this one boys Sat June 7 Dev league v Dolphins at Frankston, Sunday June 8 Seniors v Bendigo Gold.Just because we are Coburg doesn't mean we own oil fields.
And between May 4 and July 13 the Magoos and the seniors play together TWICE IN NINE WEEKS.
I want to know which imbecile at HO though this one up. Obviously IQ and insight not part of the application process.

Take away the development league and you may end finishing off the stand-alone clubs for good. How are clubs going to effectively track the progress of 20 plus players playing local football across suburban Melbourne?

Agree that's tough when development side plays away from seniors but still think its better than the alternative which sadly I think is gaining real momentum.

Some players-managers with short-sighted view will appreciate being able to pay local football or VFL and Zac O'Brien was rookie listed doing just that this year, but for most it will hinder their development.

Clubs get the draw a little while before the actual release. Jablonski obviously has something to do with Coburg and has been lucky enough to see their fixtures
