VFL: Roosters claw closer to finals

From the Ballarat Courier
Reported by Melanie Whelan

NORTH BALLARAT 1.0 6.4 8.5 12.9 (81)
GEELONG 5.4 5.5 7.7 9.10 (64)

THERE is another twist in North Ballarat Roosters’ finals bid.

Selkirk Roosters coach Gerard FitzGerald had calculated most of this season that 10 wins would be enough to make Victorian Football League finals.

Evenness in the competition has prevailed, but it seems the Roosters’ 10th win, a 17-point victory against Geelong, has may offer up that coveted top-eight spot.

The Cats are two games behind the now fifth-ranked Roosters with two rounds to play.

And what a two games the Roosters have ahead in third-ranked Williamstown and ladder leader Port Melbourne - both long-time nemeses.

“This game is ours. Finals are ours,” were FitzGerald’s parting words to fire up his players at the final break.

Coming good at the right time of the year Digs! Are the Roosters bound for the big farm shed at Docklands?

Highly unlikely NorthPort, but we re making a few clubs a little nervous at the minute with 10 wins from our last 12 games. Another big test against the mercenaries this week then against the state team the following week. Would think that we would have to win at least one to be sure of a final 8 position.

Huge game at Eureka Stadium this week. Both teams look even on paper but I think China will have a bit more leg speed than Finland and they should get the 4 points.

And in the other game I think North Ballarats disiplined and defensive method will get them the win at home in a tight one.

Digs may have to put a side some petrol money for a couple of trips to Port Melbourne!

I think Nth Ballarat are in, hard to see both Geelong and Sandringham winning both remaining games. Of course, winning one or two more might secure the Roosters a home final at the snowdome.

China vs Finland will attract a bevy of Port Melbourne & Williamstown talent scouts looking to bolster their already horde of foreign legion players.

The VFL have taken earned home finals away from Eureka Stadium in the past. I would reckon not much chance of a final there.
I can only hope Roosters are not sent to play at Box Hill.

What are the rules about home finals?

I'm sure port melbourne tweeted a few weeks ago that they'd host finals in the first 3 weeks so who gets the home finals?

When it snows in hell Rocker !!! Stop you're stirring.
The Roosters are not in the finals yet.
As I've said before, It's hard to win from 8th but it's a bloody lot harder from 9th.
