I think the only thing that would make much difference to the generally disappointing crowd figures would be a resurgence of the interstaters. If things went back to pre 2007 when many afl finals were interstate, that would probably boost vfl crowds a bit.

I don't see footscray making much difference. If they earn a home final, where would they even play it?

Two free-entry grounds may be inviting to some spectators who may not have otherwise attended, especially not being televised.
But us poor suckers will have to fork out to attend our team's match.
It should be free to all for first round of finals.
