Good on the VFL for this initiative.

I'm loving the music selection for the main break. Good booking!
Sounds like they are taking it pretty casually which I like.

Wow. 18 of the 24 players in VFL team of the year from stand alone teams, plus four from partially aligned teams.

Port 7, Willi 6, Coburg 3, Werribee 3, Frankston 2, Box Hill 1, Footscray 1, North Ballarat 1.

Sounds like a cracking finish to the count. Noticed Clouston, Fetherstone and Warren all got plenty of votes despite the goalkicking being down this season. Shows the extra work key forwards have to do these days.

We were all thinking it would be grand stand finish with Toby Pinwill getting 28 touches and 2 goals in his final 2 matches but the umpires didn't see it that way. Woodward is a very good player, perfect replacement for Brad Sewell I reckon for Hawthorn going forward.

Congratulations to Alex Woodward, a fine young player and great fellow. Having watched the final 2 home and away games (against Bendigo and Northern Blues); he was a certainty to poll 2 BOGs in these games so when he was in striking distance after Round 18 I was sure he'd win.

Would have to be the biggest awards night in Box Hill's history with Box Hill players taking out the Liston, A Todd and Frosty Miller Medals. Would have won a fourth medal too if there was one awarded to the Development League leading goalkicker.

Which means there will likely be 3 Liston Medallists in Box Hill's Preliminary Final team - Ross, Hallahan and Woodward. I wonder if this is a first for the VFA/VFL?

Of course, if Hawthorn dropped Sam Mitchell, that would make it 4 Liston Medallists in the Box Hill team ........... :-)

All 4 would have played in the '89 grand final against Coburg, although Swan won his as a Port player.
Good effort by the Mustangs - I seem to recall Woodward hurt his shoulder in the opening game down at Willi, but clearly bounced back well.

Very Impressed with the winner & his humble acceptance of the award. Can't help but be taken by his gratitude towards his family, support & the footy clubs involved.
A worthy winner I would suggest after a series of severe setbacks.

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green
