2015 Port Melbourne captaincy and list discussion

Decided to move this over into its own thread.

For mine, the Captaincy should go to either Toby Pinwill or Shave Valenti. Pinwill has been with the club since coming up from the Oakleigh Chargers and I think would be idea in that role.

I've heard him speak on TV a few times and I think he'd be great in the role.

Others could be Chris Cain, or they might look for a younger captain who could hold the mantle for a few years.

Say it ain't so... Baird isn't a huge surprise but Pleming is a big loss.

Two great warriors who deserved to go out on a better note.
Pleming especially as he was a home grown product with Baird providing inspirational leadership both on & off the field.
I'm sugesting that if Port's greatest players were to be selected again both would be inclusions.
Might well be a hint for another couple joining them.

Ah yeah their will be others - very seldom do you only lose 2 players at the end of the season. I feel that they will recruit well though and put a competitive team on the park.

37 times Grand finalists
16 times premiers
21 times runners up - THE MIGHTY BOROUGH!

Probably too early to call in regards of captaining Port. Maybe an outsider depending on recruits. Ryan O'Keefe/Brad Sewell type or someone from the current leadership group.

Ryan O'Keefe, Are you bloody serious !!!
His Sydney jumper is still warm.
He wouldn't know where Port Melbourne was.
What about a home grown product or don't you have any.

Ryan O'Keefe did play for Port in the GF loss to Geelong when Port was aligned to the swans.

I'd love to see Rino back at the club. He was one of the players that made the alignment with the Swans work. Unlike the North Melbourne alignment, every Swans player I can recall really committed to the club under David Dunbar.

Unless he is planning on moving back to Melbourne (assuming he doesn't get picked up by an AFL club), I would have thought the chances of him pulling on the red and blue again were slim.

As for list discussion on the final episode of borough tv Gary has said he will be after some talls, another ruckman, a goal kicker and about 6, 7 new players all up. Will be interesting to see who they can retain and who will leave. Obviously the club recruited well last year but that counts for nothing and we will taking a few steps backwards if their is a exodus so player retention will be very important if we are to cement ourselves as a top club. Port People mentioned that the loss of Galea hurt us.

Looking at the senior list I'm hoping that the club will be able to retain its core from 2014.

Likelys
Valenti (who carried an injury throughout the year and was still one of our best),
Pinwill,
Marigliani,
Magner,
Woofindin,
Gordon (broke back into the side late in the year),
Sandilands,
Mascitti (cemented his spot in the side over a very consistent season),
Cain (got a lot of attention from taggers but still got a lot of possession),
Noonan (now becomes the most experienced defender after the retirement of Sam Pleming)
Davies
Lange
Robinson (A real highlight for 2014).

Will they go on?
Rowe (returned to the club when he saw us lose in the 2012 Grand Final from memory)
Langford - Been a great clubman and servant of the club. Had a really strong 2014 but one poor game against Box Hill saw him miss the remaining two finals.
Bonaddio - I'd love to see him go around in 2015. Had a really good year and his marking was a highlight in 2014.
Fanning

Could be drafted.
T O'Sullivan - A breakout year and a real draft chance.
Luke Tynan
Connors (played injured during the finals series, and missed a lot the season with a cut hand)

Hoping to see take the next step in 2015
Michaliades
S O'Sullivan
W Johnson
Thornton
Muling
Henderson
Pearson
Hogan

May look elsewhere..
Purcell - A premiership player, Josh has been on the list for a few years now but has struggled to break back into the side.

Just a few thoughts while I wait for a website upgrade to finish...
