North Ballarat - Standalone in 2016

How will they fair?

They must surely regret their decision not to renew Gerard Fitzgerald for their return to standalone status.

Has their been any word on what is happening both with coaching and recruiting? I'm assuming nothing has really been done with player signings really need a senior coach to do so.

The Roosters have a lot going on off field with the redevelopment of the ground but it's hard to set them being very competitive at this stage.

Last I heard Fitzy was still a chance. They must be close to making an announcement, surely.

Roosters will be competitive and will do no worse than this year. Fitzy still a chance.

[/quote] An admission the board made a mistake, or that nobody suitable applied for the job?

I seen Fitzy in his suit Sunday was good to see the great man. I hope he is still a chance to retain his position.

NorthPort,
The board don't regret the decision as that decision was on the agenda a for a couple of years by some members, however most people up here do. The decision is the greatest act of bastardry in the club's history.

Considering all the turmoil the Rooster went through last year, the fact they didn't have  a coach until just before the start of pre-season and didn't really recruit, you would have to say three wins is an OK result for the first year back stand alone.

Avoiding the wooden spoon on the weekend was an added bonus, and given they had 20 more inside 50s and 10 more scoring shots in that game (and beat the Dolphs twice this year), there can't be too much argument they didn't deserve to get off the bottom.

They were in front or level five times at 1/2 time this season and within a couple of goals another five times, so they showed they could be competitive when it's hot in more than half their games.  There is something to build on but they really need to keep this core group together so they can hit next season running.

Paul,

At least half of the players have resigned or were on two year deals so the current crop are looking ok. At the beginning of the season the average age was under 21 & were competitive in many games but the lack of experience at VFL level took its toll.

The coach Marc Greig has done a great job first up & the players are totally behind him. What's needed is some experienced stronger bodies to be more competitive & the way the current mob running the show...........Who knows !!!

Maybe entice former North Ballarat player Drew Petrie back ?

He would help the young roosters.
