Saints, Sandringham on verge of historic deal

http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/saints-sandringham-on-verge-of-dea...

Following months of sensitive negotiations, the two clubs are close to a compromise regarding the Sandringham guernsey. While the Zebras will continue on most occasions to wear their predominantly black and gold jumper, the new deal would see them play up to three home games a season at Moorabbin wearing St Kilda colours.

(Danny) Corcoran confirmed the club had tentatively agreed to design a clash strip in St Kilda colours when playing home games in the future at Moorabbin. The Saints can currently only field 14 senior-listed players a week in the Zebras senior team under the current agreement meaning senior players have been forced to line up in the development league on occasion. But Corcoran and Sandringham's CEO John Mennie have led a Zebras sub-committee holding regular talks with the Saints quartet of Finnis, Jamie Cox, Ameet Bains and director Thompson which will ultimately see selection restrictions lifted.

Any truth in this? Thin edge of the wedge for the Zebs?

Look at werribee yesterday when brad scott pulled out a few players from yesterdays game at richmond costing them badly. Thats the alignments for you. No problems at port, willy, coburg, north ballarat and frankston

I thought the Sandy / St Kilda alignment finished this year?

The advantages of alignments relate to financial assistance....the disadvantages are overwhelming of the nature that Werribee found to its cost this weekend. The years Williamstown endured with Collingwood and Footscray cost the club many supporters because they couldn't hack the interference and indifference of the AFL clubs to Williamstown.
The difference since we have returned to a stand-alone structure has been immense - pride has been restored and supporters are realising how much better it is to have your destiny totally in your own hands. I hope Werribee and Sandringham do not live to rue these alignments.

Spot on Seagull90,I've spent years on the psychiatrists couch trying to blot out the"Collingwood years".
Werribee arein danger of becoming irrelevant, now Sandy are going down the same path, hugely disappointing.
#giant size cop out.

Spot on seagull90 and cgull. The seagulls have the feel of a real club and look at the difference in the past few years on and off the field. Coburg are far better on their own and have been great and will improve to make the finals this year if not next year for sure. The roosters will take a while but have a strong base to be more than competitive. Port had the perfect season as standalone s few years ago and this year have had a lot of new players at the club. The dolphins will improve eventually. If i was at werribee i would be fuming. Lets pull out a few players as we might use them at morth next week. Thats is typical big brother. I hope sandy don't go down that path. Too good of a club with a lot more success than st kilda.

The language coming out of TBO for a while has been ...the current agreement expires at the end of 2016 season
expiry of an agreement is different to going alone.

Once you start wearing another clubs colours, you are pretty much going down that path Preston slid down. Lost their name, lost their colours, lost their jumper, lost their song. Now they have a Carlton logo and they have been all but erased altogether.

Poor old Sandy! No limit to St. Kilda players. Games played in St. Kilda colours. Sounds like the end is nigh.

Nostradamus predicts
2017 a couple of games in the St K strip
2018 all away games in the St K strip
2019 all games in the St K strip

Unfortunately its all about the MONEY and because Sandy for some reason missed out badly on the pokies money that keeps Port,Willy and Nth Ballarat afloat so they need the cash from St Kilda and as most business mergers go its the entity with the deep pockets calls the tune sadly.

Yep give it about 3 years and Sandy will be St Kilda reserves playing out of a refurbished
Moorrabbin The AFL teams all really want their own reserves teams and it will happen sooner rather than later.
For Sandringham Football Club to survive as their own entity would have to leave the VFL and play in a lower league or the VAFA
