Obviously I know more than you do Zebraman. The list of members & sponsors who turned there backs on the club after he ripped them off is long & distinguished.
And I know a fair bit of what is happening at Sandy. I spoke to John Mennie and Danny Corcoran yesterday to get an update. I'll have a chat to Dennis Galimberti about your allegations. Being a lawyer, I'm sure he'll be interested
Sandy. The most successful club in the past 30 years
Getting in a back & forth argument over the internet is not what I intended. I'm very angry & passionate about what they've done to the club. If you can contact me privately I'll let you in on what your unaware of.
Seems to me as an outsider that, despite having full time staff and a lovely home ground facility which should be able to turn a dollar, the Zebs desperately want to avoid going stand alone. They seem to lack significant stand alone support (which I know from personal experience occurs when an alignment kills your local identity). Whilst I don't want to fully endorse KH's comments, there must be something pretty did about the club's financial position for it to further compromise itself with St Kilda in order to stay alive.
What if the Development league goes? Will Sandy only be able to offer, depending on injury, 4-10 places in one team to non AFL listed players?
Alignments are a double edged sword. The financial advantages are obvious and have given a number of VFL clubs a lifeline to a sound future. But there is always a down side as well. And I would think Werribee is feeling frustrated by their full alignment with North Melbourne. The fully standalone clubs enjoy being in control of their own destiny whereas those in relationships with AFL clubs will always be compromised. The decision is often one of expediency. Or survival.
big words KH?
I hope one day we see Sandringham and Werribee go stand alone again and if possible Box Hill too. Northern Blues I would worry about if they reverted to Preston in a stand alone format, love to see it but would need major backing and support. Williamstown has a real club feel since it went stand alone and sorted out it's 2014 infighting. Have been to a few games in 2015 and 2016 when Port games were played on different days and noticed a happier crowd and bigger attendance. I think Trevor Monti until he retired recently did a excellent job bring onboard Jason Reddick and the increase in memberships is amazing since the start of 2015. Whether you love or hate Trevor, he did have the club's best interests at heart. Fred Hall will do a excellent job too as new president. Andy Collins is a fantastic coach to bring a premiership to the club in only his second year there and has got the footy department working like he wants now. Alignments can cause problems but also internal club factors play a role too, you rid yourself of them and then the rebuild starts. I think Sandringham will be fine down the track and Mennie has only the best interests at heart of the club. Sometimes you need to hurt before you heal.
I hope Sandy bites the bullet and goes stand alone when their agreement finishes with St Kilda. This is the start of a takeover by the Saints, and the last thing we need is for Sandy to become another Preston. There will probably be be a few ordinary years to start with but it can be done. Willy and Port have done it and won premierships, Frankston is on the way up after a myriad of different problems has held them back and they will survive. If Sandy are to survive in the long term, it has to be now. At some stage down the track St Kilda will decide having an alignment is not in their best interests and will dump Sandy on their broke arse.
sounds like KH knows somebody who is continually negative to the sandy footy club. I wonder who that can be?
Yep. KH sounds suspiciously like that person himself.
