BOX Hill is a club with a long history, but it is a history lacking in premiership success.

Once the White Horses, briefly the Stranglers, memorably the Mustangs and now the Hawks, Box Hill's triumphs are made more valuable by their scarcity.

The club has just three senior premierships to show for its 75 years of existence.

IT was a case of back to reality for Box Hill, as an inexperienced line-up went down to Bendigo by 73 points at Windy Hill on Sunday.

The Hawks bombed-out after half-time, as a six-point deficit turned into 34 points at three-quarter-time, before the Bombers enjoyed a seven-goal-to-one final-term romp to a 21.15 (141) to 10.8 (68) win.

Springvale Scorpions games record-holder Damian "DC" Carroll is returning to the VFL as coach of the Box Hill Hawks.

Carroll's appointment will be announced today and he will meet the Box Hill players at the City Oval tonight.

BOX HILL HAWKS: Hawthorn has pulled ruckman Simon Taylor out of tomorrow's cutthroat semi-final against Port Melbourne for ''precautionary reasons''.

Taylor has battled to return to full fitness since fracturing his leg in a pre-season match in which he returned prematurely against Sydney last month.
