Not sure what football will be played in any comp for 2020 if any. Fair chance the west coast v Melbourne game last night was the last at any level for 2020. Looks like a pen mark with the words NO PLAY DUE TO CORONAVIRUS when searching for the 2020 premiers at the various competitions and leagues.

Thought that it should have been cancelled a week earlier Robbo. ! Would not be surprised that the comp had to be started for all involved to recieve some sort of renumeration for the 2020 season ??

As for the "Sheilas game" why on earth was that permitted to continue when all other leagues were cancelled beats me.

What a farce !!

Simple really digs, money, the AFL gets approx. $16mill per round of games in TV rights, so its in their, and all the AFL club's, interest to keep it on air not to mention Ch7 and Foxtel for their advertising and subscription revenue. Caroline Wilson even hinted on Saturday on 3AW that Rupert may have been on the phone to ScoMo urging them to let the AFL and NRL to go ahead. If there is no further AFL games this year then several of the Melbourne-based clubs, as well as Gold Coast & GWS, will be insolvent without the rivers of cash from the AFL. Interesting times. This is a good read on the issue:

There  is no doubt as to who runs the country. Wal ??
Rupert must have thought he was talking to Johnny Howard.

That's exactly my thoughts CGull, sums up the situation perfectly & well-written by fellow Williamstown resident Darren 'Smokie' Dawson.

Rupert allegedly shafted Turnbull, so he's certainly still pulling the strings even though he is a US citizen.

Murdoch has been interferring in Australian Politics for a very long time mainly to protect his business intrerests and profits. One example was Howard allowing Foxtel and Optus to have ads on their Pay TV channels even though people were paying subs.

A good start by the AFL to save money would be to STOP paying 10 of their exes over $800,000 pa.

I dont see the AFL or any of the clubs going under but they will have to cut costs esp players/coach payments and bloated football departments as well.

Afl clubs will be forced to cut lots of staff as well as players taking decent pay cuts. I can't see afl coming back at all this year.  Not sure how they can fit 16 rounds if they start several weeks later than may 31. Some local leagues can scramble 10 or 12 weeks seasons in. Vafa probably more chance than any. That of course depends what happens with the virus.

Could the season extend into the warmer months and finish later on in the year ? The only problem.i see is ground clashes however I believe the mcg is used from boxing day on wards and the Sheffield shield puts cup or whatever it is called is played at Junction oval ?

In any case of they have cancelled the comp when 1,500 people are affected then theirs no way that the comp will go ahead in late May when over 20,000 are affected.
