After leading Williamstown to a Preliminary Final last season [b]Brett Johnson[/b] will return as Seagulls Captain in 2008. Johnson was appointed Captain by the player group last season and was an outstanding leader on and off the field. Johnson said "it's a huge honour to be re-appointed Captain of such a proud and historic club such as Williamstown and join other greats such as Barry Round, Gerry Callahan, Terry Wheeler, Troy West and Brad Lloyd as having the privilege to lead the Seagulls into battle. I am looking forward to the upcoming season and leading the Seagulls deep into September action".
[b]Steven Greene[/b] was re-appointed as Vice-Captain and is looking forward to getting back on the field after missing a large chunk of last season due to a knee injury. Greene's knee is progressing well and is aiming to be play Round 1.
Other appointments to the Leadership Group were [b]Jason Cloke[/b] and [b]Ben Jolley[/b]. Both arrived from Bendigo Bombers this season and have made quite an impact at training and have shown to have leadership qualities. Both players should have a big impact on the Seagulls fortunes this season. Also in the Leadership Group is [b]Murray Boyd[/b] and [b]Tom Langlands[/b]. Both players are fine young men who lead from the front with their performances each week. Both players graduated through from the Western Jets and played their local football at Spotswood.
Two new additions to the Leadership Group were [b]Matthew Cravino[/b] and [b]Mick Tanner[/b]. Cravino is highly respected by the player group for his competitiveness and was rewarded with the Ron James Memorial Trophy (MVP as voted by player group) last season. Tanner arrived from Old Essendon at the beginning of 2007 and was exemplary all season in the defence for the reserves, showing lots of spirit and was one of the Seagulls Reserves best in the Finals Series.
