IT'S 10-straight wins for the VFL Cats.
But Port Melbourne did all it could to prevent Geelong's double-digit streak on Saturday.
The Cats trailed by seven points at half-time and two at the final break, with the Borough entering the final term with the breeze, momentum and raucous support at North Port Oval.
When Geelong attacked, Port had the answers, but the visitors featuring 17 AFL-listed players held their nerve and captured their 10th consecutive win.
Coach Matthew Knights said the clash was perfect for his players in the lead-up to finals.
"It was a captivating game, very exciting and I think both teams played aggressive footy all day," Knights said.
"It was certainly a win that we had to grind out late. Some of the games this year we've had really good opposition but we probably got hold of the game a bit earlier in the last quarter. But that was probably as tough as any game we've had for the whole year."
The last term featured a handful of lead changes, until a crafty snap goal from Ryan Bathie followed by a Paul Chapman major secured the win.
Knights lauded the team's ability to maintain its winning ways over the past three months despite regular list changes.
"It's been a really good couple of months," he said. "What's pleasing about most of it is we've done it with very different teams.
"To win 10 games in a row is an excellent effort."
The Cats round out their VFL home-and-away season against Bendigo at Queen Elizabeth Oval on Friday night.
