Werribee Football Club General Manager Mark Penaluna said the improvements would benefit both players and spectators at the ground.
“We welcome the funding that Chirnside Oval has been allocated, which will lead to significant improvements,†Mr Penaluna said.
“This oval is used by many different sporting clubs and these works will greatly improve the playing and training facilities, as well as enhancing the clubs ability to attract greater crowd numbers.â€
“As expectations rise on the quality of our oval surface and amenities, particularly from an AFL perspective, these floodlights will provide a standard that is suitable for night games being played.â€
Wyndham Council City Presentation Manager Lois Binnie said the whole community would benefit from the works.
“These improvements will cement Chirnside Oval’s position as one of Wyndham’s premier sporting facilities,†Ms Binnie said.
“Upgrading lighting will allow for the possibility of night VFL games and extend the hours available for ground use, which is particularly important given the current drought conditions.â€
“These works are in addition to projects that will be undertaken as part of Council’s 2008/09 Capital Works program including spectator mounding and terracing works.â€
