Players in the SANFL to play for free

SANFL CEO Jake Parkinson says players will be playing zero payment (except for JobKeeper) should comp go ahead in 2020

Thoughts?

coaches and umpires will also get no payment either

Isn't job keeper 750 a week ? That would be good enough money to appease the majority of the players I would think.

I doubt all players are eligible for Job Keeper. I'd guess it's a relatively small percentage of players? I don't know, but it would certainly apply for coaches and players who also have devt roles etc.

Players and coaches putting their faith in Jobkeeper of Jobseeker payments to survive on will be in for a shock very soon. Jobkeeper payments are up for review in June and look very likely to end early. Legislation has already gone through to end Jobseeker payments early. It will only be paid for 5 months instead of the promised 6 months, with payments reverting back to the miserable $250 odd per week, and I dont think anyone would be surprised if the Govt imposes further reductions.

Tough situation for these guys who are in this situation through no fault of their own.

SANFL have confirmed no Crows or Port Magpies team in the league in 2020

they are looking at a 14 round 8 team comp

No Port Adelaide magpies ?? First time ever. They did merge with Norwood in the war years though.
