I remember at a Box Hill v Northcote game late 70s the days you could rip up a phone book and newspapers and throw them in the air after a goal. On this particular day Northcote kicked a quick goal so the newspapers went up in the air. One of the boys in blue made me jump the fence and pick all the pieces from a muddy Box Hill ground. LOL
The memories of yesteryear !!
Photos from late this afternoon at SkyBus Stadium, first light tower going up
Looking good. One of my favorite grounds along with Sandrinham,Port,Coburg and Williamstown.
Werribee's Chirnside Park has improved a lot over the past few years also. The worst by a long way is the windswe13pt hole Casey Fields.

Love this discussion, great to see the Port diehards ridiculously clinging to the idea that North Port Rat Trap is the best ground going around. Gotta be kidding me! Coburg is a pretty handy venue, must agree, heaps of space, though it's never filled. I reckon Chirnside Park is a good venue to watch from, though the big crown on the ground isn't helpful. I must admit to enjoying the atmosphere at Sandy, nobody heckles Frankston supporters with as much venom, but it's bloody good fun, especially when we get up. I love the little grandstand there, it's pretty cosy on a wet wintery day. Casey oddly reminds me of Waverley and I loved that place. I enjoy being on the outer side and having a dunny close haha. But, all in all I reckon Frankston has them all beat. I think it's a perfect size for our competition, and there really isn't a bad spot in the house. The lighting will make us the best ground around by far I reckon.
Oh, I forgot that antarctic hell hole at Willy didn't I? Funny that, lol
Light tower 1 at SkyBus Stadium was completed today
Your covering old ground Aj my good mate and it isn't just Port supporters that believe their ground is the best in the league, it appears that the general public also know that it is the best as it has got the best rating/reviews out of all 8 clubs that were willing to compete in season 2020. It appears that the VFL administrators also know that it is the best. With millions more promised in ground redevelopments be prepared to see the best become even better !

I think North Port lost a lot of its unique atmosphere when the old historic wooden grandstand was pulled down and the dark low social rooms that are totally out of context to their surroundings were built!
Having been to GFs in the 1960s with a 25,000 crowds I have to say its nothing like that anymore.
If Toorak Park was being used today it would be one of the best grounds.
I must agree with you with the old grand stand - even though as a kid I used to sit in the Norm Goss stand, i did like the old stand and feel its a pity it is no longer with us, old historic with a bit of charm (hope thats the desciption people give me in half a century). I'm pretty certain where the grand stand is they moved the fence further in therefore reducing the ground capacity. Another thing I'm not a fan of is the signage up that side of the ground. The large signage prevents people from sitting / standing on the opposite hill as it blocks peoples view. Having that hill as another viewing area would ad to the grounds appeal, you can get a good view and it isn't as steep as the one on the other end which some people have stated they dislike due to its incline.
Well there you have it - perhaps one of the only times in 146 years, some unbiased criticism from a Port Melbourne supporter - are the times changing ?
Light tower 1 done
over next few weeks the remaining 3 light towers will go up
it was amazing watching put the lights on top of the tower yesterday
