Billy reckons thirty million to run thr AFLW competition. That's a lot of money to watch the sheilas continue to pick their nickers out of their lemon & sarses !

Two goals to one in the Geelong v Richmond game yesterday - and all three goals were shown in TV news highlights - that must be a first!

Have the changes to the salary cap been locked in for next year?

Also has the salary cap for the VFLW been increased?

Cannot see how increasing the salary cap is going to assist the stand alone clubs ??

I have been asking the same question for months now & still can't get an answer.!

ARE THE STAND ALONE CLUBS BROKE ??

digs, increasing the salary cap allows the stand-alones to attract better quality players who, under the current levels, can't be paid anything like what they are getting from country and suburban clubs, eg two de-listed AFL players who were drafted from Willi would have come back but we can't pay them anything like what they are getting playing country footy. If i told you what one bloke is getting you would not believe me.

I can't speak for the other clubs, but Willi certainly isn't broke. As far as I am aware, we were the only stand-alone paying the full salary cap ($480K) so we have probably saved a swag full of dough this season only paying out $220K. Also, as per last year's annual report, we have a future fund (share portfolio) worth almost $3.6mill as at 31/10/2021 so we are fine, financially.

The rationale behind the lowering of the salary cap, as I understand it, was to STOP clubs going broke after virtually two seasons of no football due to COVID. If the salary cap was to increase, as appears likely, it may be challenging for maybe Preston and Coburg, but let's hope all the stand-alones survive and become much more competitive than what we have seen this year.
