Geelong West joined the VFA in 1963 and competed until 1988. The Roosters bjoined fron the Ballarat League where it was a member from 1946. They won four succesive flags between 1956/59. In they started in 2nd Divisionin their inagural season in the VFA in 1963 but finished 2nd last. It improved dramatically in 1964 despite losing its opening 4 matches won 11 out of their next 15 matches. Success continued with the Roosters all the way into the Grand Final as they beat Sunshine to win the flag in only its second season. In 1965 Geelong West struggled in 1st Division as they came last and headed back down to the 2nd Division. They made the Grand Final in 2nd Division during the next 3 seasons for a win in 1968. The roosters record stood as 6 seasons for 4 Grand Finals winning 2. Not a bad rccord in VFA. The real success was in 1st Division in 1975 where Geelong West beat Dandenong to win their only 1st Division flag in the 26 seasons in VFA football between 1963/1988. Other Grand Final apperances in 1st Division were Grand Final losses to Coburg in 1979 and Preston in 1983. Some notable players were full forwards Joe Radojevic and Graeme McLean. Alan 'Dizzy ' Lynch, Terry Bright, Fraser Murphy who played VFL football. In 1972 Geelong West were undefeated in 2nd Division and were the first team to be undefeated since North Melbourne 1919. The roosters won all 18 Home and away matches plus both finals. It beat Caulfield by 5 points in the 2nd Semi Final and Caulfield again in the Grand Final by 6 points in front of 15,000 at Toorak Park (a crowd the VFL would love to have in 2005). Geelong West merged with local club St Peters in 1989 and are now known as Geelong West St Peters Football Club. They are called the Saints and still play at Geelong West's Western Oval.
