In a separate post I mentioned that I knew of 53 teams to have played in the VFA/VFL. Stanga - you've got 54 who am I missing, or what have I got wrong? 1. Albert Park 1877 – 1879 merged with South Melbourne in 1880 2. Ballarat 1886 – 1888, the three Ballarat clubs dropped out due to their remoteness 3. Ballarat Imperial 1886 – 1888 4. Ballarat South 1886 – 1888 5. Bendigo 1998 to present, aligned with Essendon in 2003 6. Berwick 1983 – 1987, lack of local interest and success 7. Box Hill 1951 to present, aligned with Hawthorn in 2000 8. Brighton 1908 – 1964, merged with South Caufield in 1963 to become Brighton – Caufield, then renamed Caufield in 1965 9. Brunswick 1897 – 1991, became Brunswick – Broadmeadows in 1990 in anticipation of shifting to Broadmeadows, folded due to financial problems 10. Camberwell 1926 – 90, poor results, played in VAFA 1992 – 1994 then disbanded 11. Caufield 1965 – 1987, unsatisfactory financial situation 12. Carlton 1877 – 1896, joined VFL, returned 2000 – 2002, aligned with Preston in 2003 13. Coburg 1925 to present, Coburg – Fitzroy in 2000, aligned with Richmond in 2001 14. Collingwood 1892 – 1896, joined VFL, returned 2000, aligned with Williamstown in 2001 15. Dandenong 1958 – 1994, financial woes 16. East Melbourne 1877 – 1882, lack of success 17. Essendon 1877 – 1896, joined VFL, returned 2000 – 2002, aligned with Bendigo in 2003 18. Essendon Association (Town) 1900 – 1921 disbanded when Essendon left the EMCG in 1921 and shifted to Essendon Recreation Reserve 19. Fitzroy 1884 – 1896, joined VFL, merged with Brisbane in 1997 and relocated, aligned with Coburg in 2000. 20. Footscray 1886 – 1924, joined VFL, aligned with Werribee 2000 21. Frankston 1966 to present, stand alone club 22. Geelong 1877 – 1896, joined VFL, returned 2000 to present 23. Geelong Association 1922 – 1927, lack of success 24. Geelong West 1963 – 1988, problems with depth and finances 25. Kilsyth 1982 – 1984, of local interest and success 26. Hawthorn 1914 – 1924, joined VFL, aligned with Box Hill in 2000 27. Melbourne 1877 – 1896, joined VFL, aligned with Sandringham in 2000 28. Melbourne City 1912 – 1913, never won a game 29. Moorabbin 1951 – 63, 1983 – 87, expelled in 1964 for allowing St Kilda to take over its ground, after return lack of support, success and owed VFA money 30. Mordialloc 1958 – 1988, withdrew early in season due to poor financial situation 31. Murray Kangaroos 2001 – 2002 rep team from Ovens & Murray region, disbanded when North aligned with Port Melbourne in 2003 32. Prahran 1886 – 87, 1899 – 1958, 1960 – 1994, VFA ordered amalgamation with St Kilda in 1888, in 1959 suspended due to losing control of ground, poor financial position. Joined VAFA 38. Preston 1903 – 11, 1926 to present, aligned with Carlton in 2003 39. Richmond 1885 – 1907, joined VFL, 2000, aligned with Coburg 2001 40. Sandringham 1929 to present, aligned with Melbourne 2000 41. South Melbourne 1879 – 1896, joined VFL, relocated to Sydney in 1982, aligned with Port Melbourne 2000 - 2002 42. South Williamstown 1886 – 1887, merged with Williamstown in 1888 43. Springvale 1982 to present, aligned with St Kilda in 2001 44. St Kilda 1877 – 79, 1886 – 96, joined VFL, 2000, aligned with Springvale in 2001 45. Sunshine 1959 – 1989, withdrew mid season due to poor financial situation 46. Tasmania 2001 to present, aligned with Kangaroos 47. Traralgan 1996 – 1997, returned to Gippsland LaTrobe Football League 48. University 1885 – 1888, merged with Melbourne in 1889 49. Waverly 1961 – 1987, mounting debts, merged with Clayton Amateurs and played in VAFA for several years, bobbed up in EDL 4th Division in 1991 50. Werribee 1965 to present, aligned with Footscray in 2000 51. West Melbourne 1878 – 80, 1899 – 1907, amalgamated with North Melbourne in 1908 in an attempt to join the VFL 52. Williamstown 1884 to present, aligned with Collingwood in 2001 53. Yarraville 1928 – 1983, due to reputation & problems VFA refused to renew clubs membership in 1984
