'Within two years clubs will be required to pay at least 90 per cent of the payment ceiling.'

I was wondering whether they would bring in the 'Fitzroy' rule to get rid of some clubs, however the salary cap is reducing rather than increasing which is a bit strange but nothing this mob does would surprise.

Young Lachlan will step up to the plate to replace him, he's just as right-wing as his old man, allegedly

It's as bad as I feared. So assuming they are culling standalone lists down to 36, are standalone lists going to be reduced to less than 22? Time for aligned clubs to get stand on their own two feet while they still have enough numbers to field a team!

If they are doing this to all state leagues, has anyone seen the SANFL position on this? I can't see them being dictated to like our clubs are.

SANFL makes their own rules, which is a good way to be!

This is a classic chasing of the tail, which the AFL excels at. Get rid of the devt league, which creates a disincentive for VFL clubs to list young players, so now they force clubs to list 19 year-olds without creating a pathway for them once they turn 20. Typical policy-making on the run.

There used to be 20-plus 19-20 year olds on each VFL list, giving the chance to learn and develop in a semi-professional environment, it's extraordinary that the so-called governing body of the sport has destroyed this pathway in such a short time, and now puts in place a half-baked replacement.

Its the only thing the AFL does well - f**k everything up! Masters of the craft...poorly thought out and illogical rules and implementations by the dozen. Give them less players, less money to spend and make them play more kids they say. Doesnt sound like progress to me...

Gilligan and co have given the state leagues a broken leg and are now putting a band aid on  to fix it.

Very soon football will be suffering the consequences of the astounding decision in 2012 to gift Gilligan the CEO position rather than advertise and search for the best person they could find for the job.

The state leagues should be very very worried about their survival while this pumpkin head remains in charge.

Gilligan's circus at it again. Afl has axed the interleague championships. What's next ??

Yet again the AFL shows it is not interested in anything but their top tier competition.

This mob of dickheads couldnt run a choko vine over a shithouse....

Yet another moronic decision by the afl clowns. Shortening of the half time break. Looks like supporters will be spending most of the third quarter in food and toilet queues. Are the afl morons for real ? What is the logic of a 10 minute half time break ?? What will the players do sprint in the rooms and walk back straight out ?? Afl circus !!!!
