AFL clubs don't want their players playing with or against non listed players. So what happens with excess Who knows!!!!
those wanting VFA name back that won't happen either
May 10 remains key date, but I am confident we can play some sort of season as long as finances are ok, from start of July.
With the AFL players cut from the current lists surely they would have to play somewhere or are the AFLclubs going to put them on jobseeker and not have them play this year?
Of course the almighty AFL would never let the VFA name reimerge as It woud start a lot of young people asking What was the VFA? and they would have to explain that the VFA was the main competition in Victoria before the VFL/AFL even existed! The VFA Victorian team actually played SA in 1879!
The AFLs official book for THEIR centenary was titled 100 Years fo Australian Football = 100% Wrong!
Its called rewriting history to suit your narative and the AFL are very good at doing that.
Im actually loving it that they are being hammered by the virus crisis as It might actually stop them squandering the TV monies on themselves and look after the rest of the football community.
But I think they will soon revert to their old wastefull ways. .
The victorian afl teams were all once a vfa team. The code is called Australian rules football. How idiotic to call the vfa the vfl as the afl were once the vfl. Confusion ? It is like not acknowledging who your parents are and where you come from. I cannot see what idea or plans the excess afl players go to ? If they play no where there is going to be a excess baggage of players who are not game fit and more than likely gone from the afl system in 2021.
The original centenary for a football competition was 1877. One hundred years of the vfa.
Of course it was vfa but it's an uncomfotable truth for the almighty VFL/AFL to admit. Its not such a big deal in SA and WA who know their football history.
Your not wrong there Billy. Sa and wa embrace their history.
It would be great to get a short season of VFL footy but it all depends on Comrade Dan. He has made it very clear that even though restrictions are being lifted nearly everywhere else, it may still be some time before he follows suit. Victoria had 7 new cases yesterday and 13 today. Unless the numbers drop I think we could be in strife...
The numbers will go up, as yesterday they tested 13,000 people and it takes about 1 - 2 days to get the results back.Thats the most for one day in the nation and they are trying for 100,000 by the weekend. This will give us a better idea on what % of people have the virus and when some of the restrictions can be lifted.
I think its touch and go if the VFL and local Leagues return this year and it might be better that they dont and instead get on with a total restructure of the VFL next season..
With so many getting tested in next few weeks you might see a a sudden spike in cases.
That will most likely put an end to majority of football in Victoria.
I think it is a 50/50 for the VFL with some Local Leagues likely pulling the pin for 2020. You might also get some local clubs would rather wait for next year irrespective of their League plays or doesn't in 2020.
I would like to see the VFL play in 2020 even without AFL teams and a shortened season. See what happens in next week or two but VFL or local footy in VIC won't be starting until at least mid June if happens at all.
22 more cases today but it mightn't be as bad as it first seems. 19 of these are from the abattoir and two were returned overseas travellers who were quarantined in hotels.
We will get a better picture in the next few days.
We are an unofficial VFA / VFL website made up of long time and new supporters of clubs from the Victorian Football Association (now Victorian Football League)..
