Hey vfa they had other names such as The Brickfielders and the Rosellas as and I can remember them being called the "cotes" at one stage in the 1950s Carn the cotes had a nice ring about it.

It will be an interesting VFL (part) season if we get any games at all. Stand alone clubs plus maybe the remnants of the alighned clubs!! Hawthorn - the family club!!! - removing all staff from Box Hill!! Carlton to do the same with Northern Blues? St Kilda from Sandy? Melbourne from Casey? At best a compromised competition - and that should never surprise any "old" VFA supporter! To say it politely - I am so pissed off!!!

Thats what you get from selling your soul to the devil (AFL clubs) Seagull90

Remember I think its only Frankston that has never been aligned with an AFL at some stage since 2000.

Brickfielders, villains, penguins, tri colours, pottery workers.  We certainly had some great vfa nicknames.

Hawthorn won’t allow its AFL-listed players to play for Box Hill this season, according to News Corp.

The AFL announced on Monday all state leagues – including the VFL – are on hold until May due to current coronavirus fears.

But according to the report, Hawthorn’s AFL team confirmed on Tuesday they wouldn’t be supplying any AFL players to the VFL team this season, effectively reducing Box Hill to a standalone team in 2020.

Box Hill, who are coached by former Hawks player Max Bailey, recruited the likes of Brett Deledio, Josh Deluca and Andy Otten in the off-season.

But they face the prospect of finding new players to fill the void left by the absence of Hawthorn AFL-listed players.

If I was framing odds for the 2020 premier that's if it is played I would have werribee $2 favourite. Box hill without hawthorn players will really struggle. It will no doubt have to dig deep from efl and Yarra valley clubs for players. Don't reckon they will have spectators for afl games for several months which quite easily be the whole year. My local railway station on way to work this morning that is packed is like a ghost town. At the moment if it is not cancelled I can get to a couple if Yarra valley games on April 11, 18 and 25. Grounds like belgrave, seville and upwey could be the go. That is still a few weeks away so no certainty they will be on.

McLaughlin looked very sombre. Could be a very long year. Safety comes first and if that means isolation so be it. To all the posters please stay safe and look after your families and each other.

I applaud what Gil McLaughlin and AFL Commission did yesterday must have been very hard but had no alternative.

From a VFL/VFLW point of view hard to see 2020 going ahead at all, just the way it is. I think we will see our comp back in someway in 12 months time.
