Just to square the ledger Mega i'll bite

I have had the opportunity to meet Garrry several times through Fitzy who he is good friends with & have found him to be a fine person.

What I cant have is the adulation & status on him as a coach.

Port have spent thousands of dollars giving him the BEST players that money can buy for the past twelve odd years for little return. One & a half premierships.

Easy to get carried away with his playing career compared to his coaching carreer !!

Where will you put the statue ??

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

A obvious set up i know but how do you get a half premiership?

During Garys tenure we have seen 3 prelims, 2 runners up, 2 premierships - i think that exceeds expectations and has assisted him in being Ports longest serving coach with a coaching record that will most likely never be beaten at the Borough.

Yes Port did have a advantage over other lesser financialy successful stand alone clubs however taking the part time environment into consideration and the inability of playing AFL players wether that be fringe AFL players or more established players coming back from injury or finding form, i would say Garys achievements have exceeded expectations from a club with high standards who isnt afraid to turn over personel if those standards are not met.

In the majority of seasons under Ayres Port has got to the prelim or better. Considering all the obstacles and challenges of competing in such a comp many would give a above satisfactory rating on his report card. Your opinion differs and you are of course entitled to your opinion but not many at Port would agree with you.
