Couple of good VFA club clashes this week, Coburg vs Frankston and Port VS Willy. Pity they are both on Sunday, would have liked to go to both.
I'll go to Port v Willy
There is also a vfa reunion luncheon at Sandown dogs on Sunday with guest speaker phil Cleary. Lunch starts at 11.30am with first race around 2pm. I'll go to that.
Port v Willy will be a great clash, both clubs struggling and unused to sitting in their current ladder positions.
The Borough are as close to our strongest line-up for the season.
The weather forecast is very ordinary. It wouldn't surprise if the lights got a run after half time as I think it's going to a gloomy day.. Weather-wise anyway..
I feel a little like with the season all over for both clubs, personal and club pride is really on the line.
* It's time to restore the VFA name.
Congrats to Coburg on win but Frankston put in their worst performance of the season today
Firstly, congrats to the burgers on their win. They were simply the hungrier team, and in cold and windy conditions that's usually the team that wins.
Aside from the absence of Max Williams, I reckon that's the strongest Frankston team on paper that I've seen in years. Did the boys get a bit overconfident? I don't know, but gee they failed to play any kind of smart footy with the wind today and it cost them badly. The last quarter was honestly embarrassing, failing to score a goal coming home with a gale.
For the past three weeks we've looked like a certain finalist. Today, we look like a bottom side. Disappointing doesn't really cover it.
Port Melbourne bounced back and looked the hungruer side today. Williamstown had chances to square it up in the second when they created scoring opportunities kicking into the wind, but inaccuracy really hurt.
I thought it was a really setting effort from the Borough back half who linked up really well in some of the worst conditions we have played in since the Brisbane game up at Moreton Bay.
Corey Wagner looked to pull up injured prior to half time and was looking really good. Hooper as usual in the middle and Tos were superb.
* It's time to restore the VFA name.
Coburg too organised, more desperate and just too good for the handball crazy Dolphins. Dont think Ive ever seen a team turn the ball over as badly by foot as Frankston did at any level of footy Ive watched. Great ploy by Andrew Sturgess to start McEvoy on a wing when Frankston had the wind, and drop him back into the backline as as an extra defender. Very effective move.
Frankston only have five days to regroup before they face Brisbane at SkyBus on Friday night. Brisbane have a 7 day break so it will be very tough for the Dolphins.
Why didn't Josh Newman play? There's no player worth more to the Dolphs.
Injured his groin 2 weeks ago. May be back this week or the next I believe.
