super keen for saturday night at frankston! only 2 night games left for the year. gotta soak up the vibes. the rowdy lot on the hill got a shoutout on the mason cox podcast earlier this week haha! roped my brother into supporting the dolphs - saturday will be his first taste of frankston night footy - the best footy atmosphere available anywhere outside of a packed MCG. get into it!!
Coburg desperately unlucky not to post their first win of the season!
In a frustrating game for both sides in front of a small but vocal crowd, Port ran out eventual winners.

Port Melbourne 11.14. 80
Coburg 10.10.70
The game saw some fairly ordinary umpiring, which I don't mind saying... Favoured Port.
After being within 4 points at half time, Coburg must have thought they rightly were a chance of an upset win and breaking the seasons drought.

Your right about a small crowd, barely 100 people in the picture. Don't know what they were thinking by playing the game at that timeslot, what made them think that was a good idea when other night matches in better conditions also produced poor crowds ?
Hopefully Sunday is a real winner and it restores some club pride which seems to be dormant at the moment.

It's an interesting contrast, Dolphin Attack mentioned the great atmosphere at nights games at Frankston. I'm not sure why we haven't captured that at Port.. I like the night games but feel like it's more of a warmer weather event.

Theres not much atmosphere at Kinetic Stadium night games unless you're standing on the hill, underneath the small scoreboard half full of drink. Anywhere else its cold, quiet and miserable. Personally, as a spectator I much prefer day games with the traditional 2pm start.
not going to lie, the nostalgia factor is a big part of it for me, reminds me of going to sandy v frankston games in the 90s with my grandad. the hill crowd is where its at. i dont drink but i love listening to the hype
I remember some of the abuse the old Borough ladies copped as they walked past the Hill in the late 90s. It would have had some of those supporters up on charges if it happened in this day and age.

We sit opposite the hill.....I'm not a big rap for them in truth. While they do support the team and give us a bit of an edge, I think their general intimidating and bullying of opposition players and supporters actually turns the umpires against us.....and no, I'm not kidding.
As for tonight's game with Southport.......the Sharks were ferocious tonight, had clearly done their homework and knew it was going to be decided by contested possession, and they blew us off the park with it, which is rarely done. Their ball use is incredibly slick, and their clearance work very sharp. Given all of that, we somehow led them for 2.5 quarters before a couple of undisciplined frees got them level at 3/4 time. Kicking to the Kars St end in the last was always gonna be an advantage for them and they quickly broke the game open to lead by 20 points halfway through. The Dolphs did keep fighting and the final margin might have been 14 points I think which was testament to Frankston's effort, which was never in question. I would love to know what the free kick stats were......pretty safe to assume we were on the wrong end of them. Credit where it's due though, Southport were very polished and would be a worthy finalist in my view.
