Clubs now.
As there has been a fair bit of reminiscing about clubs of the past, I thought it would be good to have a look at where clubs that were once part of the VFA are now. I know that Mordialloc are in Southern Football League Division 1, and Caulfield (in at least a partial form) are in Division 2. Can we identify any others?

I'm actually researching all of the clubs that have played in the VFA over the years, and that's how I came across this site. By my reckoning there have been about 53 teams to have played since 1877 & even though still very much a work in progress I can give you a bit of info Ballarat - now BFL South Ballarat merged with Sebastapol - BFL Berwick - Mornington Peninsula League Caulfield - many of the players and officials became associated with St. Kevins Ormond. In 1993 St Kevins merged with St Andrews Gardenvale and were renamed Caulfield, nickname “the Bears”. It competes in the second division in the Southern Football League. As you can see I'm only to "D" but it is very much a work in progress. Has anyone heard of East Melbourne, South Williamstown, University (not the VFL outfit). I'm trying to id colours & strips but no luck.

Oops, shouldn't have added a separate question to the string "Has anyone heard of East Melbourne, South Williamstown, University (not the VFL outfit). I'm trying to id colours & strips but no luck." Ignore it I'll post it separately Cheers Burner

I've come up with 54, having included the Murray Kangaroos, when they were really only North Melbourne. Not sure about that one. Love to see what you've come up with, it would be good to publish a book along the lines of your research for the 130 year celebrations, if there are any celebrations.

I'm in the process of collecting pictorial representations of all VFA clubs - cigarette, cereal, trade cards where available (mainly 1900's, 30's & 50's), photo's, etc which got me interested in finding out more about all the club histories & what happened to them. Project is coming along nicely - was very happy to come across this site & find other VFA fans out there. When I've pulled it together more I'd like to turn it into a book (along with the cards, etc I've collected) but in the meantime I'll share what I've done on the site - when I've worked out how it operates properly.

Mordialloc compete in the SFL Division One. Won the 1999 2nd Division GF at Cheltenham against Surrey Park (now in te EFL). Hvae since been in Division one without setting the world on fire. Have yet to appear in the finals in the top flight. Narrowly escaped relegation finishing just above Ashwood this year. Have just had their team of the century recently. Still the old VFA team who left to go to the SFL after their stint in the VFA. Kilsyth comete in Divsion 4 of the EFL. They only had 3 seasons in the VFA 1982/3/4. The old VFA ground was Kilsyth Recreation Reserve. I visited the ground for the first time this year since a 1984 clash against Northcote. I watched Warburton-Milgrove v Thornton-Eildon (2nd Division) of the YVMDFL. Kilsyth have won 2 senior flags since leaving the VFA and several more reserves flags. They play at Pinks Reserve Kilsyth. Waverley VFA club merged with Mt Waverley to form the Waverley Blues. They play at Mt Waverley. Waverley VFA club had a season or two in the VFA after a season recess. Te have been in the EFL for several seasons. They compete in the 2nd Division. Mazenod who play in the VAFA play at Central Reserve, Waverley's old VFA ground. Geelong West merged with St Peters and are called Geelong West St Peters. They play at the old Geelong West Ground Western Oval. Theyb have languished near the bottom almost every season since leaving the VFA. They had a reunion for its VFA teams in recent years. Sunshine, Northcote, Camberwell, Oakleigh and Brunswick are gone. Sunshine folded and I don't think have even had a reunion since it's VFA days. Northcote likewse which is very sad for me being an old Northcote supporter. Camberwell had a couple of seasons in the VAFA after the VFA and played at Rathmines Reserve Hawthorn. They have had a team of the century and a couple of reunions of late. Another reunion of the 1981 premiership is planned on October 15. Oakleigh hav been inactive since 1994 its last season in the VFA. Maybe time for a team of the century. Any old Oakleigh supporters out there ? Brunswick have had a reunion a couple of seasons ago where Wayne Schimmelbusch fronted. Time for the Wickers to also have a team of the century. Any old Wicker supporters out there ? Dandenong had a great turn up at the redlegs team of the century. Still plenty of talk that thye redlegs will take over the old Dandy West who are now called Dandy Demons and play at Dandy Showgrounds. This was Dandenong's original ground in the VFA. They would like to evenually play at Shepley Oval and reform the Dandenong Redlegs. Yarraville last played in 1983 with home games at Western (Whitten Oval). Maurie Feilds was the last ever president. Kingsville have been called Yarraville for several seasons now. John Heron has wrote a few books and is currently writing an indepth history on football in Yarraville including the VFA team. If you are out there John eron I would love to get a hold of any old video footage of the Yarraville Eagles in its VFA days. The 1977 and 80 Grand Finals would be great. Denis Pagan coached the 1980 team which lost to Brunswick. David Thorpe coached the 1977 team which lost to Mordialloc. Bewick went from the VFA to the MPNFL. They have had moderate success since its VFA days. Former Geelong/Adealide rover Ronnie Burns is the current coach. Thats some of the old VFA teams- where are they now ?

The Sunshine in Div 1 of Western FL has no link to the VFA Sunshine. I would need to check, but i understand South Williamstown was blue and white, and Williamstown black and gold, and when SW merged with Willy they combined the colours to come up with blue and gold.

Not quite right, Dandenong played at the "OLD showgrounds" in 1958 which were next to the current Dandenong market before they shifted to Shepley Oval Dandy West play at the replacement showgrounds that are in west Dandenong.
