Fallen Stars on SEN today
Today on SEN I was half listening to KB and I heard something about 'fallen stars'. Most callers were saying Ben Cousins, or Mike Tyson etc. A caller rang up and gave Fred Cook as an answer, didn't quite hear his reasoning, anyone else hear it??

By chance, I was in the car listening when the Fred Cook call came in. I was surprised it was about the 12 or 13th call they took, I would have thought one of the first 5 callers would have mentioned him. His reasoning, if you don't know the history, was that Fred Cook was an absolute star of the VFA, a six-time Premiership player with the Borough during the power years of the 70s and early 80s. Drugs were Fred Cooks downfall, as he fell in with the wrong crowd, much like Ben Cousins has been likened to (allegedly) with recent events. As a result, I think Cook spent time in prison.

Oh fair dinkum, I knew it was no secret that he had 'dabbled' in drugs, but never realised how much into he had got! Prison for drugs, particularly in those days must have been a big offence!

I may be wrong about that Iceman. Paul Amy did an excellent interview/article on Fred: http://www.philcleary.com.au/vfl_fred_cook_amy.htm

I think that's right regarding Cook spending time in prison. I also think the same happened with Brett Cooper, who was a nuggety Bullants player in the early 1980's.
