  I saw that mate. Good to see this site is reaching people that are involved in the VFL like Donegan. This site is very promising in my eyes - if someone like Donegan can pump it up on the TV a few more times, we might see some new members. :)

So only 8196 people went to the VFL grand final in Melbourne when there was no AFL in competition and on a Sunday so very few local leagues in action either. What's the excuse this time, Footyman?? Perhaps the VFL grand final should be played in Hobart every year - at least you'd get a crowd.

An extremely poor crowd, that must concern the VFL and Football Victoria. The weather was fine, very little wind, and two power clubs that should be drawing huge crowds. Should the game be played at a smaller venue?

They got more than that to Arctic Park in 2000!!! The problem is to have a Tasmanian Grand Final nobody will know until the week before the game, and I reckon that poses a problem given the reserves game, luncheons, entertainment etc that occur on Grand Final Day. Plus for the last few years, the VFL has had a contract to play the Grand Final at Optus Oval. It cannot be as simple as saying "let's take the Grand Final to Hobart". And given Tasmania's involvement cannot be confirmed until a week before the big event, surely it would be difficult, although not impossible, to play the game down there. There is no doubt the crowd was appauling. What sort of crowd did they get to Caulfield races yesterday?? Or the VAFA Grand Final?? There were other events on. Maybe Optus Oval is the wrong place for the game (although I think its great - plenty of room and seating), maybe the $20 entry is too much. If I had my way the VFL Grand Final would be played after the AFL Grand Final, I think that Sunday after AFL GF should be tried.
What's the excuse this time, Footyman?? .
I mentioned the Caulfield races which has turned into a big meeting and the Amateurs Grand Final. But forgot about the Melbourne Show which they reckon had 75,000 people go through the gates yesterday. And I'm sure a lot of other school holiday events as well. Mate there are so many reasons the VFL Grand Final got a poor crowd, Tasmania might be the hub of nothing, and therefore draw a big crowd to a VFL match, but Melbourne is always full of events. Sadly, the VFL didn't rate that highly on people's list this year. It is a small fish in a big market.

There was talk a few years back about playing the VFL Grand Final on the Friday night before the AFL Grand Final at Colonial Stadium... while I doubt that it would draw a crowd then, could it be played the week after the AFL Grand Final (i think the SANFL used to do that)

Not only is it a rotton stadium, it doesn't incorporate what the VFL is about in terms of local groups, etc.

I don't think the $20 is an issue as I paid $12 to get into a low standard Grand Final up here in the bush at the weekend.

It's only a slight benefit, but it is still a home ground advantage. It needs some re-jigging, but I still like Optus for the minute.
