I'm down here in Tassie at the moment, dad died during the week... I went into the big sports store here in Launceston yesterday and was talking to the guy about the Devils. He said he'd asked many times about stocking the new jumper over the year (all he's got right now are the 2002-06 jumpers as clearance), and the club simply won't get off its arse to supply sports stores in the North. After a conversation about the team and the players, I then asked the direct question "is the North dropping this team like a hot spud?", and his frustrated and resigned look said it all, if the "oh yeah" nod and shaking of the head already didn't. "It's the Hobart Devils, mate, don't worry about that"... Guys, we have a problem...I had a gut feeling what I wrote last month from 2000 km away was probably (and unfortunately) on the mark, and this just confirmed it all for me. Big contrast was late 2005, when every sports store up here pushed the Devils - yesterday, 4 stores and only this one had anything - two old jumpers and that was it. Added to this the fact that the website is utter bull$hit and you simply cannot get through to the club (all I want is a replacement stubby holder - there's no shop anymore I've emailed every address there, even Scott Wade!), and all of the stuff I said before, and there you have it... Tasmania's golden chance and what should be a flagship sporting team, is being shredded...I felt anger, would you believe, walking out of that store...supreme disappointment that we've f###ed it up yet again...and it looks like the state's second biggest city has done exactly the same thing in the 2 years since I was last down here...

You really are negative From what I understand the Devils are up in the North at the minute playing intrasquad games, running clinics, and hosting a game with old blokes like Rhys Jones playing - Love how phrased the question " Is the North dropping this team......" Fire those embers Totally agree that the Devils need to become more professional - would love a stubbie holder as well, and a scarf and a web site that has info on it and I have let them know this stuff that encourages a club and member to be involved) - there are not jumpers in stores in Hobart as well -they need to start winning!!!!! But I ask the question - are you a member and what can you do to solve some the issues you are carping on about????? - maybe going along to the day that is being held up there Stop being so negative - we get this enough from others and it gives people an excuse to bag Tassie and get distracted - support them and maybe talk some people in to being members and going along to games Love the passion you have - but direct it in a positive way for a change!!! Cheers

Only thing missing that I really wanted to see was a players list or even an article on how recruitment is going.

Cheers[/quote] Now hang on! Have you seen anyone else who's lived in Qld for 12 years do this: www.tassiedevils.moonfruit.com I hit the club shop as soon as I knew it existed...I've thought about membership, but not much benefit to that up here...couldn't justify it to the family... The "spud" question was asked after a lengthy conversation with a guy who barracks for the state of Tasmania as hard as me and you. It wasn't A Current Affair. An intra-club practice is being held in the North of the state...this is supposed to keep Launceston and NW fans happy? Are you serious? Why are you guys burying your heads deeper in the sand? You're getting this negative stuff from others? Who? And my question - why not from yourselves? Why are you not emailing Scott Wade (as I will do when I get back home in a few days) to say what is clearly not obvious to the board of the Devils? Or don't you think it matters? I think I will keep on carping, because the North is voting with their feet and not their mouths... You are a Southerner who loves the state of Tasmania and the state's teams. If the situation were reversed, I can guarantee you'd be in my shoes having the same conversation with a Northerner who's saying impractical stuff like "well, we need to be centralised", and "you get the cricket"...fellas, wake up! The track record in our footy is there for all to see, and it's happening again. This is our big chance to set in stone a team that should be as rock solid as Collingwood, the Eagles or the Crows, but that won't happen if bean counters just look at AFL-philosophy numbers and don't think "how does this work for Tasmania"...split the games right down the middle for all time, protect this policy, and start flogging those jumpers for all their worth...then demand millions from the AFL to ensure Northerners who must travel to all training are covered or able to be relocated, or split the training (2003-04-05 - made the finals while training as split squads - Cresswell's got it wrong). Is this negative? A fan calling it as he sees it so that his state side becomes a juggernaut the whole state loves, Victoria fears, and Australian footy respects...? I've offered my 2 cent solution... By the way, thanks about Dad! It's all cool, everything's great considering, and he was a feisty Northerner too!

Hey gibbke Great to hear from you!! I understand the membership stuff when I was posting it I was thinking you were down here not up in Queensland - the web site is very impressive I will try to add to it at some stage. Love the comment re - 'A current affair' you strike me as more of a four corners man! Thats why it is good to have this yak - bottom line is that I agree that there should be more games in the North and will advocate for that but I do see myself as a Tasmanian. Bottom line though is that people need to support the games. The Devils really are a chance to establish a Tasmanian 'club' that evoke the same sort of passions as a Collingwood or a St Kilda (my AFL team - who I have not shelled out for membership) and I do fire up about Tassie. Suggested to the person in charge of membership last year to sell scarves similar to the ones that Hawthorn supporters have with the number of years of membership on it but was told it would be to expensive - short sighted reckon anything that encourages a club atmosphere should be encouraged I spend a lot of time up in Launy with work and I see the passion there as I do here - I do believe in centralising the team for training purposes with concessions (ie not having to relocate if established ie Stephens) People in Hobart moan about the AFL games being in Launy (have not wanted to refer to this!) but go up for the day. I would love the Devils to win - love going to the games and I can understand the frustration from people in Launy not having games scheduled there Once again I am really sorry re your dad ... Cheers
