Surely there will soon be something worth talking about!
Is it just me or are the topics on the recent post listing the most dry and dull discussion topics we could come up with? It's been a shocking off season in VFL news, with many signings being kept quiet (not helped by the transisition of club websites which have been down) and of course there seems to be a lack of info coming from AFL Victoria. The league seems to have no sponsor, there have been rumblings of an increase in AFL control over the state body, nobody has provided much detail at all about the Telstra Dome experiment for the Grand Final, how will the Prelim Finals work (ie. will one side only get a five day break before the GF), has it been confirmed whether ABC TV will actually show the Grand Final live on a Friday night, why have curtain raisers at the MCG been scrapped??????? Bucketloads of questions, but all seems to be quiet. Lets hope with Praccy games getting into full swing that slowly we start seeing a flood of interesting discussion about recruits, pre season form, season predictions and suggestions on how to improve this competition to ensure that it even exists in 5 years time!

I totally agree with you. I am looking forward to finally getting back into it and will be at Skilled for the Werribee v Geelong practice matches.

The biggest story was non football related....the Frankston Grandstand fire.... Hopefully there will be some news out of Frankston re what's happening down there....I notice that their practice games are listed as being played at TBC...I feel for Frankston....for the fire to happen one month out from the start of the season is disastrous But this week the real stuff bgins...well...practice matches any way....then we can debate the merits of pre season form....does winning practice matches guarantee success when the main season starts.... This year I'll be taking heaps of photos, particularly at away matches as I'm working at home matches...so in amongst abusing umpires and opposition players I can snap a few pics... Bring it on....been way too long

I seriously hope they can find a way to rebuild the stand to the original specifications, with nice modern fittings inside of course :D

I agree there seems to be a total lack of interest from the top at the VFL ( thats what you get when you have outsiders running the comp) and the clubs also should take some of the blame as it is up to them to put the information out for the supporters.

Gotta agree with my buddy CS. There is no chance it will be rebuilt to original specs. As pretty as it was to look at, it was not the greatest stand to watch a game from given its structure. (Footyman's comments entered here!!) And in any event, when you talk abouit "fittings" etc I assume you are talking about the rooms underneath which you would find were at the highest standard in the VFL having been totally reworked 3 years ago. The best you can expect is for a Gandstand to be rebuilt that is "in keeping" with the look of the previous stand. It would be silly to rebuild what was there exactly as it was, given that it would simply burn down again one day.

:D Gotta agree Dolphin, the change room and showers under the timber stand were first class so that's a real loss but fortunately the Dolphins had built new home change rooms a couple years ago so can they be shared with the visitors in anyway? go zebs zebra

Again, it comes back to the pathetic marketing of the competition - both in season and out of it. Thumbs up to Williamstown, of all the clubs in the VFL they're streets ahead of all other clubs in keeping everybody informed via their website.

It was an outstanding structure in terms of a historical building, but the posts were an obstacle, the seats relatively uncomfortable and it just had a 'dirty' feel about it. Admittedly most grandstands are hardly warm and cosy - most are old, grotty and occupied during the week by animals or the homeless. If Frankston are planning something new for the site, I hope they look at something modern, maybe put a coaches box in that side of the ground, maybe a media box (to keep the broadcasters happy) and an area for the TV cameraman to go so he doesnt have to stand in the way of spectators!!! And fireproof of course. As long as St Kilda's rooms arent built there - then I'll be really unhappy.
