Carlyle did well in an average side. Eames did well in a finals side. So you're right chief, Eames was unlucky
I can only go by the games I saw, but Carlyle was tireless. It wasn't his work at the stoppages which impressed so much as his ability to move around the ground like an old-fashioned ruck-rover. He also got jack-all ruck division support in a team stocked with midgets.

Well put. You always need two ruckmen, don't you?

They really only had a handful of experienced talls - Matt Smith, Bloomfield, Morrison, Milhuisen, Carlyle and maybe one or two others. When you have just one player on your list of 196cm (6'5"), you're going to be in trouble.

Eames robbed. But maybe you can't fit 4 guys from the one side in the Team of the Year. Or even 5 as Chris Fortnam should have been in the middle as well. And I still say Matt Burns or Paul Rebeshini should have won the Fothergill Round. But thats all fair enough because it would have ended up looking like the Frankston B&F!

Not sure about Fortnam chief. Byrnes is a gun and belongs in the guts. I agree that Reberschini is a young gun and he seemed to come out of nowhere but you can't win medal by playing half a dozen games

Well done to all who were named, thumbs down to those who are sooking about one or two who didn't get named. I reckon it would be a tough job to select, thats a good end result they came up with.

I agree. I wasn't sooking, I was just being a smart arse.

How was Kyle Matthew's good enough to make the team of the year but not win the Fothergill-Round medal and on the flip side, Jason Davenport won the medal but didn't make the team of the year???????????
theobserver
He never rated the VFL. He said as much on the radio two years ago.

Sorry, posted up on wrong thread. I suspect the Davenport-Matthews situation could be explained by the fact that there were different selectors. They mentioned last night that Martin Stillman selected the team of the year
