Port Melbourne sign Patrick Rose

It has been announced on the Port Melbourne website yesterday that the club has signed Western Bulldogs rookie/Williamstown forward Patrick Rose for 2011.This a great pickup for the club.

Very excited to have Rosey down the Borough. Top line footballer who rarely plays a bad game. At a stand alone team I think he could go to another level and kick 60+ goals. Great news for Port Melbourne!!

Have I missed something here ??
Is this the same Patrick Rose that Williamstown subsidised to go with the Western Bulldogs.
That is bloody gratitude for you.
What is it about Port grabbing players from other clubs.
Valenti was bad enough, but Rose the heart & soul of Willy will be a huge kick in the guts.

I guess being delisted by the Doggies he has realised his AFL dream is probably over at 24yo so he has decided to go to the highest-bidder. Willi wouldn't meet his demands so he has moved to Port, simple as that. Will be interesting to see how he & Dean Galea combine together on the forward line, unless Ayres has other plans for Rose.

Very surprised that the dogs axed Rose as a rookie.
Rose and Galea will be very handy around goals crumbing to the likes of Bannadio.
Bad loss for the seagulls. Also with Faulks moving to the afl ranks the seagulls would want to replace these to to break at least square with their vfl talent.

I thought being drafted by the Bulldogs took him to "another level"

Or maybe at 24 he still thinks that if he has a massive year at Port he could be a chance for GWS in 2011?

In my opinion he is a true small forward and Rocket Eade wanting him to play midfield was bizzare. The Western Bulldogs were blessed with running players but struggled up forward at times. Young Hooper was the sides great hope as a small forward in the finals.....

Rose still kicked 40 goals in the VFL after playing most of the first part of the season in the midfield. I expect him to star up forward for Port in 2011.

Very stiff to be delisted.

Still question why he would not want to commit to Williamstown & to go with the arch enemy. $$$$$$
You would like to think that there was still some sort of loyalty towards a club that looked after him very well.
Must be some other issues as well, maybe off field ????

Wow. Would have been reason for it beyond on field.
I wouldn't imagine Williamstown being completely outbid by Port Melbourne and would assume Rose would have been offered reasonable money at Willi still.

Maybe this is more a reflection of the comp and alignments etc.

The attraction of being their own club etc. etc. having now been on the other side of the fence may have tipped the scale. Possibly the same as Valenti who was Zebra through and through but was forced to play through Scorps as well (no complaining there) but saw post AFL opportunities elsewhere.
