wow im shocked he didnt crack it for 2003. he is a class act.

The Eagles have actuallt built their success around a stack of Victorians with VFL experience (as do most SANFL clubs)..... like Mark McKenzie, Luke Jarredd, Mark Passador (now retired).

Interestingly we had the signatures of Jeremy Clayton & Ian Callinan but they kept getting AFL interest and ended up at other SANFL clubs
Jamesh, He could not get a game because of 18 Collingwood skunks !!!!

We might be from the bush. but we ain't green

Well he has two medals now..... Which is a lot more than most Collinwood players

I believe that is the reason why he & others have departed Willi, digs, plus the SANFL clubs can pay much more money coz they get a dividend from the SANFL each year as they own the licences for the Crows & Port in the AFL.

Port Adelaide are broke and actually cost the SANFL money. The SANFL would love to get rid of them. It is believed in 2014 Port Adelaide will buy their AFL licence off of the SANFL and do their own thing (hopefully hold).

Most of the SANFL's leading players tend to be from the VFL. Our salary cap is double that of the VFL & WAFL plus a lot of guys had got a second chance in the AFL system based on SANFL form .

I dont know how you guys put up with new 'VFL'. If what happened to you happened to the SANFL I would stop attending games - the wounds of what Port adelaide did in 1990 havent healed one little bit. We tollerated the Wayne Jackson era because he was a real footy man (former West Torrens player, runner, secretary, coach and on board of SANFL - he basically kept west torrens from folding) and was seen at SANFL games whenever he was in Adelaide.

Footy isnt a job its a game. Footy is for standing at not sitting in a corporate box.
Do u have 'Seagulls Over Williamstown'? That's not a bad book, bit of a summary of seasons rather than in-depth stories but not a bad read from a historical perspective. Also, the Williamstown Historical Society has a LOT of footy club history, including Ron Todd's two contracts (the dodgy one & the real one) and all the footies from the 1950's GF wins, annual reports, minutes of meetings & an honour board that they have lovingly restored.
Wal,
Did Willy win any flags under Ron Todd's dodgy contracts ??
May well have to hand them back if anything untoward could be found.

'digs' what club did'nt pay under the table.

I bet the Roosters would have played a few boys under fake names over the years.

They certainly did digs, he kicked 188 goals in one premiership year. I can't remember the exact figure but he got something in the vicinity of $10,000 to leave Collingwood for Williamstown, which was an enormous amount of money back in the '40's. Collingwood wouldn't come anywhere near that amount as they believed the honour of playing for the Magpies was enough, so he left & joined the Seagulls & had a stellar career in the VFA.

Ron Todd and Des Fothergil to Williamstown, Laurie Nash and Roy Cazaly to Camberwell, Bob Pratt to Coburg. There was some huge stars that crossed to the Association back then. Collingwood never forgave Ron Todd. Big crowd to watch Todd play his first game with the Town.

I heard that when the VFA signed joined the ANFC (which opened it up to poaching from the VFL) Ron Todd was on his way back to Collingwood.... but Collingwood just had him sit there and wait.... so he walked and went back to 'town
