Port Melbourne is expected to churn out more mature-age recruits in the lead-up to this year's AFL draft with midfielder Chris Cain already being linked to Fremantle, which is renowned for picking up late bloomers.

Heading into a semi-final against arch-rival Williamstown at North Port Oval on Saturday, Cain, who has generally spent most of his eight seasons at Port as a half-forward flanker, believes a move to the midfield has paid dividends this season.

"I've been able to play a bit more in the midfield and that's probably helped me go forward and back instead of just playing forward, over the last few years,'' Cain said. ''Some of our better players going down in the midfield has given me an opportunity.

I take it Caino had all these wonderful skills and attributes 12 months ago or did he discover he's so wonderful over night ?
What has changed ? Why wasn't he drafted last year ?
And i'd love to see Bonnas go around again next year.

2011 & 2012 he made the VFL team of the year as a small forward but this year he's spent more time in the midfield which has been the main reason why his stocks have soared. I think the success of Dwyer hasn't hurt his chances either.

We must be watching completely different players?? Stats a side (which are excellent) it seems like Cain is certain to get a chance to prove himself at AFL level. Skill wise and athletically he has all the attributes of an AFL footballer. Can see him going on and having a pretty good career.
He's also very good on his left side.
I think you'll find recruiters see him as a much superior prospect to Clifton in that he can play multiple positions and has a great mix of speed and endurance. And kicking is elite!

No question about his skill & athletic ability as he can run all day, mainly away from the ball.
If any of the recruiters were there on Saturday they would have all been gone by three quarter time.
PLEASE STOP COMPARING HIM TO SAM DWYER.

Bit harsh digs, an ex-Rooster by the name of Marcus Darmody starred down here for the North Warrnambool Eagles on the weekend, 36 disposals and 10 marks across half-back. What do you know about him? Looks a likely type.

Good player Wal but just hasn't taken the next step.
Has had plenty of opportunities but can be a bit lazy.
Kicked 7 goals last year against Bendigo but hasn't done a lot since.
Could make it with some hard work because he has ability.
I'd say his VFL career is at the crossroads. He must do the hard work.
Didn't know he was an ex Rooster. Maybe he has pulled the pin.??

From what I can gather in the local paper he came back to play here late in the season but still lives & studies in Ballarat.
