[quote=Port Melbourne Football Club]The recently released Fishermans Bend Urban Renewal Area Draft Vision document (see attached link http://www.portphillip.vic.gov.au/fishermans-bend.htm) has dire consequences for the Port Melbourne Football Club.
Amongst many proposals, this document implies that the perimeter wall around North Port Oval be dismantled and the area be converted into an open plan reserve.
If this proposal was to materialise it is likely to lead to end of the Port Melbourne Football Club. The club would lose $250,000 per year in gate takings and catering.
It would also call into question why PMFC, the AFL, AFL-Victoria and the State Government have invested $3,800,000 including $1,925,000 specifically from PMFC, in developing state league facilities at the reserve.
Whilst Port Melbourne Football Club supports many of the initiatives contained in this proposal and would embrace any opportunity to be an active community leader in this new precinct, the reality is we cannot perform this role if we do not have a club!
Port Melbourne Football Club President, Peter Bromley stated, "This is the biggest threat to the Port Melbourne Football Club in its 140 year existence. I strongly encourage all PMFC members, supporters and sponsors, in fact all football supporters to submit a response to the online survey located on the Places Victoria website stating your objection to the proposal of dismantling the perimeter wall around North Port Oval. If this proposal is successful the Port Melbourne Football Club will not survive."
How can you assist the PMFC:
State your opposition to this proposal via the online survey (see attached link http://www.places.vic.gov.au/cs/Satellite?c=VPage&cid=1316149683199&page...).
Voice your concerns with your local Member of Parliament or Local Councillor.
Spread the word that the PMFC’s future is under threat due to this proposal.
Make submissions to Places Victoria, 710 Collins Street, Docklands, VIC 3008.
Whilst Port Melbourne Football Club in conjunction with AFL-Victoria will be responding to the Fishermens Bend Urban Renewal Area Draft Vision document and stating our opposition to the proposed dismantling of the perimeter wall around North Port Oval, and warning of the dire consequences this action would have for our club, it is not enough. We need your active support.
